View Full Version : 11.5 AR SHTF Pistol Optic
I?m currently running a Trijicon MRO on my 11.5 go-to everything gun. I like the light weight, but between my astigmatism slightly blurring the dot (not bad) and the inability to zoom at all, looking to potentially change it up. If money were no object, what would be the ideal setup? ACOG/RMR, Elcan 1-4x, LPVO or something else?
I like a prism, I run the vortex spitfire. Battery’s not required...

For pure performance LPVO + Offset, but that comes with weight. I prefer something lighter on a 10-12.
Try looking through a Aimpoint T2/M5 if you can find one in person. The optics are significantly improved over pretty much every other red dot. Very crisp dot even with astigmatism. Significantly less parallax than MRO. Both attributes really improve hit rates.
For a lighter LPVO, Steiner P4Xi 1-4.
Have you ever held an Elcan? Not light. Neat, but heavy. (I pretend stole one the other day by sticking it in my pocket)

Ha, yeah. Elcan’s are built like tanks and weigh about the same. I need to get my hands on a rifle with an ACOG/RMR piggyback, just to see the eye relief. I know the LPVO’s are heavier, but the utility is unmatched right now in my opinion.
I'm pretty sure I have the same rifle that you do. Pretty sure I've got one of all the options you're considering. Honestly, after trying all the options out I decided that on this rifle I like irons the best.
It was Izzy's Elcan that I "stole"
OP if you weren't so far away I say you could come by and try out a few options and see what you think.
Here is a couple guys talking and cover optics too.

Nightforce NXS 1-8. Great scope. Very light (for a magnified optic) and the dot at 1X with the illumination on is the equal of my MRO's. Zooming at 8X is a huge bonus for longer shots and identifying targets. I love mine and will have a couple more as my piggy bank allows.

Aimpoint Micro works out OK with my astigmatism. You can engage a man sized target at 500m with 1x, which is also near the ballistic limit of an 11.5”. My 11.5” wears a Holosun equivalent on a 1.93” mount.
TA44 ACOG gives a touch of magnification and is still damn near red dot fast. Very astigmatism friendly.

This is my set up also. If you have the money you can't go wrong with the acog.
