Those that have Android devices, whats your favorite media player app for audio and video locally stored files. Not asking about streaming apps.

If it matters my media library is rather large.

Now that Google Play is due to be defunct on the 1st, I have to seek another music player. I loathe YouTube Music, and the hoops that Google is insisting on in order to transfer my music library over. There are many issues with YouTube Music. I went with a free music player that doesn't download, nor stream, or even connects to the internet. As I have my music library already downloaded on my phone (and I can add to it by transfering from computer to phone when I am ready) I have chosen Musicolet.

This doesn;t address your need for media streaming with video, but this free app is perfect for audio.

I agree that Google has boned us once again. The ONLY reason I've used Google Play Music since it was in beta was because of the ability to upload ALL of my MP3's to the cloud, create playlists and then "pin" certain playlists to my mobile device which effectively downloads the individual MP3's locally so I can listen to music regularly w/o streaming. Now, with the YouTube Music forced migration I'd have to pay a monthly fee to have access to this feature. Not doing that. I think it's stupid that they're sun-setting yet another useful app with no working solution in place. They did the same thing with this Hangouts situation and all I want now is the ability to put my Google Voice number on my standard Google Messages app so that I can give up on Hangouts entirely since it appears as though Google has w/o any sort of workaround being offered. Grrrr.

We use Plex a lot at home and when traveling for serving up all of our TV shows and Movies and it works awesome. I know they've been trying to get me to try it for music for a number of years now but what we had previously met our needs perfectly. I may see if they have a local "pin" or download option and if so I may set up a few playlists through that and use Plex for everything.

Until then, I plan to migrate our library from Music to YouTube Music today before the deadline so if we ever wanted to access that library or playlists from a random PC or something we can. We really didn't use that aspect of Play Music much though so it may be a waste of time. For now, I'm just going to go back to the way we did things for years and that is directly copy music files to our mobile phones and then just use the built-in music app for playing them. Nothing fancy and occupies more space but we were able to make due back when phones had only 16GB of storage so given how much storage they have these days this will be a non-issue now. I dislike this solution but it's free and I'll be damned if I reward bad behavior by signing up for $10/mo service through Google to do what I've been doing for free for like a decade now. I wasn't aware Google was struggling so much financially but I guess times are tough.

My iTunes library is 869.71GB (audio & video) I have always been a fan of everything in one place and get annoyed with swapping play list and/or files when I want something different. To my knowledge I have never intentionally put any personal files, or personal entertainment library into the cloud via any method. Google drive, apple music, etc.....(That of course excludes the obvious like email servers and similar). All content in my possession was burned directly off my disc in the highest resolution possible. FLAC, or similar lossless formats.

My phone has 512GB internal storage with a 1TB microSD card added so being a fan of everything in one place I treat that microSD as a secondary backup location of my full library with that full 869.71GB on it. In truth I could remove a significant chunk (perhaps even half) of that content as much of it I have not listened to in years.

But given the fact that storage is more affordable these days I rarely if ever hit the delete button on content I have so it stays and grows.

VLC sounds like the one to go with given that it is capable of working with a significant number of file types as well as managing a large library.

And I have to this point refused to pay for any streaming service for video or audio content when I can maintain and access it locally for free.
