View Full Version : .353 Dia 147gr JHP....Use?
Doing Inventory I Found I have 1k of .353 dia 147gr bullets and really don't know what to use them for. A place called HawkBullets mentions selling them with 9mm but I would imagine you'd need a hefty crimp. Since they are JHP I don't see them expanding into the lands when fired so does anyone have a clue of what to use these for? I've also read there is such a thing as 353 casull but there was only a brief statement on a forum thread from a google search.
What say ye?

I?d use them for 9mm. Two thousandths shouldn?t make a huge difference.
My little mind says they'd be fine for 9mm. 147gr is the heavy bullet for 9mm and that weight would put up a lot of resistance on it's own. Make 'em fit as tight as 115's, and I'd be concerned about pressures.
But that's just my thoughts, and worth what ya paid for 'em.....my truck pistol is loaded with 147gr Golden Sabres, now I'm curious and think I'll go mic one.
<edit> Well, that's interesting - I have a box of 9mm 147gr Remington Golden Saber HPJ High Performance Jacket ammo, Item GS9MMC, brass jacketed hollowpoints - and the bullets on these mic at .347!
These are factory rounds, and I've checked several. They oughta just whistle right through a pistol barrel.....imagine accuracy might be sketchy though.
Messing around with crimp on it and I set the max amount on my dillon crimp die and it still moves a bit. I can manipulate it by hand to make it not move anymore but its a lot of crimp

They do just slide in and out of a 9mm unbelled case, adding the crazy amount of crimp I did just makes them spin, but not come out.

Maybe an undersized sizing die would help?

May be useful in a worn .351 Winchester or a tight 350 Legend?
Just give them to me if you?re going to be all anal about everything.

I?ll just load them backwards. Kind of like 9mm wadcutters. The hollow point will expand upon firing creating a good seal.
(I may be kidding so if you try this yourself then you assume all liability for any damaged equipment or loss of life or limb.)

You do kind of have a point though, maybe ad a gas check.........
