As the principal of the CS1983 family homeschool district, my students would never face this treatment.
Turn off or tale over your kids cameras.
Teachers have no right to see inside your home.
Virtual classrooms are "Gun Free Zones" now? Seems a little overreaching.

The .gov and all its employees are out of control. What if the kid had a B-52 loaded with cruise missiles? Call in an air strike? effing ridiculous

Could you make your schools mascot “The Redskins”?
My old HS was The Redskins and they took that away.

Anybody notice that they denoted the child was black?
Mighty fine reporting, checking all the boxes.

I could sunburn at midnight with clouds, so yeah.

“The virtual setting is not the same as the school setting,” said Curtis Elliot. “He did not take the toy gun to school. He’s in the comfort of his own home. It’s a toy.”
The Telescreens Ver. 1.0 are here.

I have a couple of those exact same "Zombie Hunter" guns, a carbine and a handgun (bought 'em for my grandson). They aren't "Nerf" branded, but they shoot Nerf-like little red balls. I recently bought them in a 2-pack at Sam's Club, probably where this boys parents got it as well. They clearly aren't close enough to a real firearm for anyone to believe they could be anything other than a toy.
This is a clear overstep by school authorities. The actions here tell me clearly that the online schooling is nothing more than providing the ability of the liberal teachers unions to come inside your home and dictate how you live. What next? What if the child had decided to snack on un-approved junk food? Would DHS have been called because the child wasn't being fed "healthy and nutritional" food? What if the boy had eaten a peanut butter sandwich? Aren't peanuts and peanut butter now banned in most schools due to some children having allergies? That boy having a PB&J sandwich could likely cause another child mental anguish since they want one but can't have it. Where is the line? How far is too far?
So disappointed in people and their delicate sensibilities these days.
ETA: I also think it's total BS that the school refused to share the video with the parents "citing privacy laws". Given the child is a minor, his parents have full legal right to any information on their child. It isn't a violation to share with Law Enforcement or school staff, but it's a violation to share with parents. Unbelievable.

Wait, in the Jeffco one, what was the teacher doing "reviewing" the video of students in their homes "hours later"?????
My kids have done "virtual learning" too. There is absolutely ZERO reason for any teacher to review anything later. That sounds shady as shit.

Spying so they can red-flag the parents?
Disable cameras.
Do not let teachers into your house without your permission and supervision.
I hope these school districts get raped in court for privacy invasion

Yes. Many doctors lean left and ask children if there are guns in the house. Nutritional malfeasance may be a way for the police to enter one's home on a welfare check.
Not that they are actually leaning when they ask the question, but I think you know what I mean.

They wont. There will be no repercussions. Teacher unions are so incredibly powerful, if there were to be a lawsuit, their lawyers would overwhelm the opposing attornies.

I use painter's tape to go over the web cameras on my laptop, desktop, and tablet. I also use green screen-type backgrounds when I'm on Teams. Haven't configured to do that when using Zoom or Webex so I just keep the camera off when I use those.

Zoom and Webex were easy to set up with a virtual background when using a green screen.
You can post any picture into their setup for Video and, with the green screen, it is clear.
I upgraded my computer system due to the Virtual meetings, etc. and have a state-of-the-art Nvidia gaming graphics card.
You can play videos or photos in the background without the green screen.
They do blur when you move, and are a lot better when you use the green screen, even with the new tech.
I got one of those fold-up by twisting green screens about 4' x 8' and hang it from the floor joists in the basement.
It's just money.

I use electrical tape that I've punched out in a little circle with a hole punch for my laptop.
