Looking for take-out, quart sized standard. Something comparable to what I can buy @ Bull & Bush in Denver. Please.

Not really looking to Santiagos brand. Blasphemy to some, I know.

Cheers!

For filling/smothering or eating with a spoon?

While it's not like Colorado or New Mexican green chile, the Chile Verde from the The Loop in Manitou/Old Colorado City is excellent by the bowl. It's usually pretty zippy and on occasion it's nice and hot. It's my go to when we eat there.

Bit soupier than I'd have preferred, but good. Thanks

I'd still recommend The Loop, if you are not put off by hot food, BTW.

King's Chef Diner green is available in jars, look near the salsas at King Soopers. Great for breakfast items, but doesn't have chunks of pork as it is vegan.

I'm not sure if the restaurant has ever re-opened since Polis's shutdown.

La Casita Mexican Grill use to have some good green chili. It is more of a soup style but the taste is good. Might be a bit mild for most but it is enjoyable.

Kings Chef is closed for good. It was a great place to eat, I ate there often. Their chili was good, they jarred it onsite.

Used to be a place called Alexander's, in Boulder (& for a couple years a location in Glendale) that had absolutely amazing green chili. Wish that place was still around.

Yeah theirs is on the soupy side. I get one burrito smothered in it and then another on the side to take a swim after I eat the first one.

Just made some. Chili’s from Pueblo. A lil hotter than typical hatch. Very nice. The best part about making your own is
You can add as much pork as you want. The link below is pretty close. If you want chunks instead of pulled pork just go that way.

Colorado green Chile is BlasphemousYou're wrong. You're arguing blondes vs brunettes :)

"Green Chili" in AZ is bad to non-existent. They sometime use a squeeze bottle here and call it green chili. [Puke]

I have had to resort to making my own with frozen NM chili imports. It's pretty F'in good.

The best green chili I've had in Colorado Springs is at a little breakfast place near Old Colorado City called Mountain Shadows Cafe.

I've made a point of trying green chili everywhere I can in The Springs and Pueblo, and while there are a lot of good contenders, Mountain Shadows is the best I've found.

Sorted the green & now I've been looking for really great food down in Colorado Springs as a whole... what else might you all recommend I try?

Fwiw Im big on steak & grilled/smoked items, Mediterranean, Japanese, Italian & I lovelovelove home style sweets like icecream, cobbler & pie. Open to suggestions for restaurants & especially particular items on the respective menus.

+1 on Kings Chef for breakfast, its cash only and if you get the full portion you will be full long after lunch. Sandy's is a good place for breakfast as well. Mountain Shadows Restaurant has decent breakfast.

BBQ/Cobbler: Bird dog BBQ is one of my favorites down here...they have a few locations
Italian - Paravicinis
Mediterranean: Mediterranean Cafe, Caspian cafe, Jake and Telly's

I want to add Susie's West Side Cafe on 21st. For your options, I've got it made, I live in OCC and agree that we have some incredible restaurants.

But if you want freakin' HOT green chili, it's at Western Omelette on Walnut St and Colorado. If you try to order the hot and not the mild, they will bring you out a little sample first. I've never been in there and had someone not change their mind down to at least half hot/half mild. Damn good though!

XJ
10-15-2020, 11:43
I am not a fan of Western’s green in terms of flavor. Adding extra habaneros doesn't fix that. The taste-test is a gimmick.

I much prefer the taste at King Chef, even if is isn’t “hot”. Without them, I have nearly no reason to venture downtown.

Up until Queen Jared's latest shutdown, Western and Mountain Shadows had normal-ish indoor dining while King Chef only re-opened their original location with outdoor seating and heaters. Thankfully, King Chef is still supplying jars to the local grocery stores.

I have taste; but eating the same basic menu for 8 months is getting old. I went out today and enjoyed a good Wendy's#2 special. The burger was good; and I loved the bacon. Besides I have been not out to the real world in 3 weeks until today. So chances are low I got anything contagious other than a bad attitude.

So you got a source for good green chili? Maybe something I can use to zing up the pallet. How about a source for Tabasco Sriracha Chili sauce? I love the nice hot sweet taste in those bowls of noodles. The normal Sriracha sauce seems to have a more pronounced bell pepper after taste.

I use to go to a nice take dine in place I have not been to in 8 months that has a nice green chili with pork. However; I want something I can stock up for a month or so. Something that would work fine over rice or maybe noodles. (by nice, good food, cheap that don't taste like it came from Taco Bell)

Locally available at some King Soopers:

Stinking Good Chili (local made and own by a retired Bronco, kinda pricey but good)
505 Chili (from ABQ)
Santiago's (Different than your average but very familiar and delicious to those who have acquired the taste for it)
