I am cleaning out some stuff from the safe and am having trouble deciding which .30-06 hunting rifle to keep. I switched to .308 for hunting a while back for a few reasons, so don't really shoot much '06 anymore.

I've got a Ruger M77 Featherweight .30-06 I bought many years ago as my first hunting rifle. I know it's pretty darn accurate. It's got some field carry wear, but I don't think it was shot much before I got it. And I shot it some, but less than 200 rounds.
I've also got a Winchester 670 .30-06 Sporting Rifle (22" barrel) I bought a while back from an estate of a friend. She needed the money more than her dads old field rifle. I haven't shot it. Wiki says it weighs 7 lbs. It has a 2 position safety selector, making it an older one.

I don't know much of anything about the 670 as a rifle. I know it's got a cool cheek weld stock on it, and this one appears to have been carried around quite a bit.

Anyway, the question is which is the better rifle, or is it generally a wash? Any opinions/knowledge on these two rifles? Should I sell both and look for a nice Model 70 as a replacement? I don't *need* an '06 currently, but it feels wrong somehow to not have one.

Thanks in advance, and apologies for the silly "which gun" question.

I haven't hunted in quite a few years now but when I did my Ruger M77 was always my go to rifle. It never let me down for accuracy or dependability.

Easy decision... keep your first hunting rifle.

I would keep the Ruger, or both :)

All right, thanks. That’s all I needed I think. I’ll get pics of the 670 and get it posted.
