I kept thinking because so many people were home and the demand on the internet was so high that was why my home wifi was so poor.
Signal kept dropping and area coverage was poor. I bought a new router from Amazon and set it up this morning. WOW what a difference.
2500 sq ft coverage and up to 50 devices capable. And all for $64 !!! TP-Link AC1750 dual band mesh wifi router.
I know a lot of you folks on here are way more tech savvy than I am but to me this upgrade was amazing !!

If you were using the router from Comcast, the thing is complete garbage.

My son told me years ago to buy my own equipment as opposed to paying to lease theirs.

If you can run cable in your house, that's usually peak speed if you ever need another project to work on. (if you have a computer that doesn't move). Cat 6e would be the target to use. It should be a long time before you feel any need for another upgrade though. Happy for you!

ETA: Slight "hack" for other people, if you ever get your house reroofed, consider running cable at the same time under the shingles as an alternate way to route it or for POE cameras. Cable is cheap and out of the sun it'll last pretty much as long as the roof does. Valleys and peaks are an excellent place to run it, as nails don't go in either place (ordinarily...)

It's pretty much wifi only here since the desktop went away about a year ago. The only thing plugged into the router is Fire tv and MagicJack, everything else is wifi.

I upgraded my router to an Asus RT-AC5300 just before Christmas since I knew the family was coming over for the holidays and there was no way my home setup would support 8 grown adults all tied to their mobile devices. The Xfinity gateway/router had problems just with my own devices at home. The new router was a champ -- able to setup and run 4 different SSIDs simultaneously so I could segment the traffic. Everyone was able to connect flawlessly and game or stream without any issues over 2 weeks.

The new mesh wireless networking is pretty slick and has good coverage. I installed a system in my folk's home due to their floorplan and where their cable modem enters their home. It works very well and I manage it remotely.

If/When my Tri-band router dies, I'll likely replace it with a WiFi 6 mesh system. I'll have to check the market when that happens since I use my current router for gigabit wired networking on 8 ports.
