View Full Version : Supreme Court Seats
So...the Democrats have been talking for a while now about expanding the number of Justices on the Supreme Court so they can choose who and pack it with liberal judges that will rule as the Democrats want.
Well...if the Supreme Court needs more Judges...perhaps the Republicans need to go ahead and expand the number of judges and fill it now.

Just what we need...more government employees!

We basically live in a banana republic already. Rule of law, the constitution, etc., doesn't mean much. Wait 10-20 years. It won't matter at all. We are on a steep downhill slide. Sad but true.

Trying to pack the court is what got the entire nation to hate FDR so much that they quickly passed a Presidential Term Limit amendment to the constitution ... Democrats aren't doing themselves any favor with this talk.

This. They're threatening to destroy the country if they don't get what they want, even though what they want has no Constitutional context. I vote for people to speak for me, and I'm tired of those people trying to play nice with a party that can never be placated. One of the primary reasons I voted for Trump was SCOTUS appointments. Make it happen, Republicans. The less they act, the less desirable it is to vote for them.

The House isn't on board to do so. Time for that, if there was a time, was before the last midterm election.
Understand...I don’t like...or even agree with expanding the Supreme Court. But if the liberals are going to do it then the conservatives should just bite the bullet and make this work in our favor.

Some of the liberals just realized they're in a world of hurt if they vote to increase the size of the court, passing the legislation to the Senate (or even somehow through the Senate) but then Trump wins. Non-Socialists need to stop panicking or feeding the morons on the Left and just sit back making fun of the stupidity of what Schumer and Pelosi are coming up with -- but we need to defeat as many Democratic candidates as we can, no matter the distaste some may have for Republicans. The only way the Democrats get the message that they've gone too far is if they get slapped HARD at the polls.

Trump should nominate Barrett. Mitch McConnell should: forego the committee hearings (since she's already been thru that) and schedule an up/down vote in the senate. There are enough votes to confirm her (gee...thanks, Mitt, for playing). Confirm her. Tell Schumer and Pals to go fuck themselves.

Packing the court is a non-starter...
As soon as one side starts, it won't end. Every time the power pendulum swings, more justices will be added to gain the majority. The SCOTUS will become a farce under both.
My preference is that we let the liberal left of this country hang themselves with pushing for this.

THIS! Right here!
Cooler heads in the Democratic party (yes, there are some) will hopefully realize that once you throw open this Pandora's box, there's no closing it. So Dems boost the court to 13? Well, when Republicans take power they'll boost it to 17. Or 21.
Before you know it we'll have 35 judges on the SCOTUS and they will have become just another "political" branch.
There's a very famous SCOTUS decision (as often as I use the quote I should probably try to find it) that says "The Court has No Purse and No Sword." IOW, SCOTUS decisions are only "enforceable" as long as people generally agree that it's a good idea to abide by them. They rely on their own persuasiveness and on a general consensus that having a legal "referee" is a good idea. IOW, I will support the decisions I don't like that benefit you, and I expect YOU to support the decisions that you don't like that benefit me.
Once that agreement is broken, the Court no longer has any power because jurisdictions will start to realize they can ignore SCOTUS decisions with impunity. I mean, what's the SCOTUS going to do, send the SCOTUS police out to arrest people? Send the SCOTUS airborne division to enforce their decrees? Deny funding for this or that agency? No, because they have no such power.

Amen. The committee hearings aren't Constitutionally required.
