Long Live The Lever Gun! Ruger Announces Plans for Marlin Firearms (https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2020/09/30/long-live-lever-gun-ruger/)
Ruger Successfully Acquires Marlin Firearms From RemingtonIn a press release on September 30th Ruger president and CEO Chris Killoy said in regards to the acquisition of Marlin: ?The brand aligns perfectly with ours and the Marlin product portfolio will help us widen our already diverse product offerings.?
Many of you were wondering what would come of the long-lived brand of popular firearms like the model 60 rifle as well as some of Marlin?s bigger centerfire lever-action rifles. Well, you?ll be happy to know that despite any concerns that Ruger plans on maintaining the Marlin Brand and its existing products. Chris Killoy put it best in the press release (https://ruger.com/corporate/marlin.html) when he said:
?Long Live the Lever Gun?
I'm hoping that Ruger puts the quality in that Remington managed to take out.

Not sure, But they're running 3 shifts, 7 days a week and having a massive hiring campaign
However, people i know have said, ruger treats their employees like crap , low[er] pay and longggggggg hours. The up side is 2-3 guns per year. Now if only they'd increase production foe the 22lr & 9mm charger

This is probably about the best outcome possible for those that like Marlin rifles.

Also in the bankruptcy, Vista acquired Remington Ammunition.
That means they now control 3 of the 4 major primer manufacturers in the country.

Nice, that is good news.
Sounds like a potential SPF (single point of failure). Especially from gov action.
Well ruger is debt free so might as well spend some cash.

I was really hoping PSA would win the bid for the ammo side.

Ruger is certainly becoming the 800lb gorilla in US civilian firearms manufacturing. Will they acquire Remington's assets as well? I wouldn't think Ruger would want Remington's rifles since they compete with Ruger's own offerings, but Remington is pretty well respected in the shotgun field, especially with the pump and semi-auto categories.
The only Ruger shotguns I'm aware of are double-barrel, has Ruger ever made a repeating shotgun?
As long as Ruger starts cranking out the dark series in 357 they have my blessings.

Ruger buying Marlin is good news for levergun fans ... but the Vista getting Remington Ammo is worrisome (as FoxArt points out, it does make it easier for government to attack a single point in the ammo supply chain and make the current shortage seem like the heyday of cheap surplus ammo ... also Remington/Federal could start acting like a monopoly).
But it is nice to see Freedom Group break apart even further.
One of the things I'm hoping for is that Ruger buying Marlin will light a fire under Henry to crank up production of side loading gate guns ... I want an otherwise standard Big Boy Carbine in .357mag with a damn side loading gate already.
They now got cci, federal, blazer, speer, and Remington ammo.
We need to import more ammo.
Zundfolge, +100 for side gate. Not sure why Henry insists on the front load.

I have always viewed the .22 style pull-out tube as pretty comical for Henry centerfire guns- it looks like something you would see on satirical firearms YouTube channel.
The system on the "Original" 1860 Henry is better, even with the follower dingus sticking down and open track groove.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Ruger continue the Remington name and some of the legacy models like the 700. There are a LOT of 700, 870, 11-87, etc fans out there.
ETA: Although I don't have any idea if the terms of the sale included the name or other rights.

All Ruger bought was Marlin. The rest of the Remington Arms brand goes to a British real estate investment group called "Round Hill Capital".
Except for DPMS, H&R, Stormlake and AAC that are going to the owners of Palmeto State Armory and Bushmaster is being bought by Franklin Armory (the binary trigger guys). I had an article with all the details but I can't find it. When I do I'll just put the link here.
Maybe it was this one https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2020/09/27/remington-asset-bids/
So no Ruger 870 pump shotguns?

I would NOT BE SURPRISED if they flip that to BAE System.

No. We need more American companies to start manufacturing ammo, especially primers.

So I wonder, if I wanted to buy a Marlin 336, should I now wait and get a Ruger made one?

I'd buy one now ... because Ruger is going to move Marlin's production to AZ and that's going to take some time ... and then there will be some teething pains.
I suspect in the next few months, Marlins are going to go up in price once Marlin production shuts down to prep for the move. That and I predict that Lever Guns are about to explode into the "latest fad" among the gun hipsters (just look how every gun YouTuber seems to be putting out videos recently about the joys of the lever when most of them never even mentioned the things in the past).
Might have to grab one quick as I've been wanting a lever gun in .44 mag for about a decade now. Only problem is I just dropped money on body armor.

a year or so, down the road. Ruger can't keep up with production on their own brand atm. There's ad's all over the area for RUGER, NOW HIRING. And few are stepping up. The ones who are, eh how hard is it to push a RUN button. then STOP when it gets to x number on the DRO.

I guess RGR is hedging against Biden getting nominated.
I just wish that we get to see the break down numbers. I would have liked to see some other manufacturer got their ammo manuf piece of pie.
