Anytime, anywhere.
Colorado couple reported missing in Colorado Springs found dead off hiking trail
Lee and Stella Vigil were found dead from 'apparent gunshot wounds,' according to police.

That is AWFUL, holy cow.
Hope the police catch the murderer(s).
I always carry when I'm hiking and biking. Some people on the trails are really sketchy.
I've ridden and walked that trail. My wife and i quit a while back because of the scummy homeless and other iffy people there. Yes, carry, you never know.
I feel terrible for this couple.

I wonder if it was possibly a murder-suicide. I knew an elderly couple, one of whom (the wife) had nasty terminal cancer and dementia. Her husband took them to a nice place in the mountains and they exited. This story reminded me of them.
As of about 10 minutes ago CSPD is no longer looking for suspects and there is no threat to the community.
That points to murder-suicide.
RIP.

I spoke too soon, I didn't consider murder-suicide.

Regardless of what happened, it's pretty sad.
Thoughts go out to family and friends. Sad stuff.
Tough story to digest and probably not that rare of a situation to be in.
Best to count your blessings and be thankful. Things can change real fast !

Second this. I hope their survivors find peace.
Condolences to the family. I hope that it was not from a place of malice. If it was sympathetic, and the victim was "in on it", and it is not a product of depression, then IDK, I would feel worse about the ones that linger in the nursing home, bedridden for 8 years. Obviously opinions will vary a lot on this topic, but I think it is the greatest right of all that should be protected - while we should always go to great lengths to stop people from acting on it, yet it should always be a choice that can be made by the individual.

A very melancholy update to the situation. This scenario did cross my mind when hearing of the event, but I figured it had been discounted based on the initial reports.
It's good for the community to not have an active third party willing to kill two elderly hikers, but we know they are out there, just not part of this occurrence.
I hope the couple are in a better place now, and whatever burdens forced this action have been lifted.

First thing that popped into my head, too. RIP whatever the story turns out to be.
