We had this fat bastard come around a few days ago. The date stamp is wrong - I didn't reset it when I replaced the batteries. This was Sunday night. He came by Monday night too. He tried to get into my garbage box without success and did open my shed, but there's nothing for him to eat in there and no damage. They're fattening up. Be aware.

On Tuesday night I heard about 20 shots from a handgun at about 1:30AM. About 10 quick shots, a pause, 10 more quick shots, another pause, then 2 slow shots. Woke me up. It was pretty close. Hopefully someone was trying to scare a bear off and didn't have to put it down. I love seeing them as long they aren't causing any damage.

What GMU do you live in? If I don't fill my tag this week, I can keep hunting the rest of the rifle seasons.

Hmmm, I'll have to check my tag for the available units, but I bet that's one. If this bear becomes an issue, let me know.

Nice photo! That's a good sized bear. It's part of life in the mountains. A few weeks ago with snow on the ground I saw that a big bear busted through the electric fence and rummaged around the cabin getting nothing, then climbed an aspen tree outside the fence and broke the front door of a chickadee nest box. Must have smelled the feathers, etc., but the birds had fledged in June. I replaced the front door on the nest box yesterday so birds can roost there through winter.

With the warm weather and the sparse food resources the bears might be active another month or so.
