Don't think I've seen this question addressed.

We all know that when we change addresses, we have to have our CCW permits updated within 30 days, etc, etc. But do we also have to update our drivers licenses, as well?

I was just getting my CCW updated with Adams county recently and the lady asked me if I've yet updated my drivers license? She said it was just as important as the CCW update and also necessary. But that is the first I've really heard about it. I always thought it was just the CCW permit that was important to update? Anyone have any light to shed on this?

The police always tell you that you need to update it, but I was told that for years and no one ever did anything about it.

I would say it is like having a front license plate on your car. Does the law require it? Yes. Will anyone bust your balls about it? Not likely.

The law states.......

42-2-119. Notices - change of address or name.

(1) (a) Whenever any person, after applying for or receiving a driver's license or motor vehicle registration number, moves from the address named in such application or in the license or registration issued to such person or when the name of the licensee is changed, such person shall, within thirty days, notify the department in writing of such person's old and new address and the number of any license or registration held by such person. A licensee who changes his or her name shall, within thirty days, apply in person to renew such license pursuant to section 42-2-118 and in compliance with sections 42-2-107 and 42-2-305.

(2) All notices and orders required to be given to any licensee or registered owner under the provisions of the motor vehicle laws shall be in writing; and, if mailed, postpaid by first-class mail, to him or her at the last-known address shown by the records kept by the department pursuant to this article. Such mailing shall be sufficient notice in accord with the motor vehicle laws. Any notice or order of the department mailed first-class under the provisions of this title creates a presumption for administrative purposes that such notice or order was received if the department maintains a copy of the notice or order and maintains a certification that the notice or order was deposited in the United States mail by an employee of the department. Evidence of a copy of the notice mailed to the last-known address of the licensee as shown by the records kept by the department pursuant to this article and a certification of mailing by a department employee, or evidence of delivery of notice in person to the last-known address of the licensee as shown by the records kept by the department pursuant to this article, or evidence of personal service upon the licensee or upon any attorney appearing on the licensee's behalf of the order of denial, cancellation, suspension, or revocation of the license by the executive director of the department, or by the executive director's duly authorized representative, is prima facie proof that the licensee received personal notice of said denial, cancellation, suspension, or revocation.

(3) Any person who violates subsection (1) of this section commits a class B traffic infraction.

Having said that, my son moves almost every year. I think his drivers license has his former address from about 3 moves ago.

I guess I didn't clarify my question: The lady at Adams county made it sound like CCW permit holders are a "special class" of person and the drivers license requirements were heightened simply because I'm also a CCW holder. She made it sound there was some strange law there.

It may be that you get hassled more strongly about it since you are on the "person's of interest" list now.

you can update it for free. fill out a form wherever you get your license - they update the computer, but don't issue a new license. then you write your new address on the back of the license.

the dude handed me a sharpie, so now you can't read the big black smudge, but it's all legal.

yep just went through the process.

Adams county told me when I went in to update my CCW address was that I needed to send in the form for the drivers license. you won't get an actual new license ID, but they will update the address in their records (which if pulled over will show up on the cops computer), when he runs your license it is good that he sees matching addresses for DL and CCW. you might catch some grief but there isn't much they can do about it.

They can write you a ticket for failure to update. A class B traffic infraction costs some money but that's about it. And they'll only hit you with that if you present an inferior attitude to the peace officer conducting a lawful traffic stop with you.

Have I EVER seen it written? Heck, no.
