Election night has always been an exciting event, certainly for me since early childhood. Later in high school we celebrated with an election night party to celebrate the landslide election of our favorite candidates. It was a TARs party I organized as president of our high school teenage republicans group. Girls, girls, girls! We were some 328 members strong and we dominated the Colorado state TARs convention.
The party was a big event with about 80 enthusiastic politically savvy kids watching multiple tv's for the results. Our club had built a float for a local parade to promote our party. It was built from my 1954 Ford pickup wrapped with chicken wire stuffed with pink napkins to make a pink elephant. Featured in the newspaper and on TV. It was a fun time.
Oh yea, all our candidates won, and Richard Nixon won the presidency in a landslide victory.
