Counties have 24 hours after the polls close (7pm local) to gather votes. Any votes after do not count.

Counties have 48 hours after polls close to submit a final vote count.

Not federally enforceable but what do I know.
I'm just a cook.

I have ideas about term limits too.

Election laws should be uniform, nationwide.

Polls close when the last person in line votes.

Electronic & paper ballots. You fill out a paper ballot, then punch in those selections in an electronic machine. Unless the paper & electronic numbers are equal. Something is going on.

AND make election day a holiday.

It is not possible to count all the ballots that quickly. Even here in CO they start 15 days before the election and won't be finished for another week.

It IS possible to count the ballots that quickly. That's kind of the point of automation and scanning readers.

Not when every vote needs to be verified by a person first.

That's not counting, that's auditing and verification. Big difference.

Here's a crazy idea. Audit the voter before the vote is cast. Eligible voter = 1 verifiable vote.

The vote has to be determined valid before it gets counted. Once it is counted there is no way to remove it.

That is done, at least here in CO. Most votes in CO are by mail. They verify the signature before removing ballot and adding it to pile to be counted.

Signature verification is laughable. I can't even sign my name the same 20 times on a mortgage note. The only verification is that it looks reasonable.

Verification should require a secure ID only issued to verified citizens. Said ID needs to be presented at a polling place to recieve a ballot to fill out. Polling locations should be open for 1 week, 24/7.

Overseas military & family would cast vote in person at thier assigned base. Citizens outside the country would do the same at an embassy. These could be filled out on a pc and printed. Tabulated on-site and submitted to the sos of each state. Paper copies shipped for verification/audit.

No more mail in voting, no more absentee voting. If you can't vote in person, you don't vote. Some locations could be open for in person voting 30 days before poll closing. No excuses to not vote in person, even in a pandemic.

And no results announced until the last poll in HI or AK is closed.

I couldn't have said it any better with regard to mail-in voting.

I'd go for a more radical overhaul:
States are required to get authenticated IDs to all eligible citizen voters. The vast majority of citizens already will have drivers license/state ID, but the states have a certain amount of time to make positive steps to get a voter ID to everyone without, at no charge, even if they have to go to the people and take the photo in their home or where ever. That way there can be no argument about validated ID requirements.

Sunday of election week: Last political commercials, advertising, etc. All signs must come down. Nothing that can influence voters allowed after this point, not even "Don't forget to vote!" on TV or social media.
Monday - Friday: Citizens with ID allowed to vote in person, or drop off their ballots (after ID check). I even like the idea of vans that go to old folks homes, hospitals, people who register because they can't get to a polling place, ID checked, maybe have each mobile team be 1 R, 1 D, 1 independent. All the while, an absolute ban on any media coverage of results, projections, how long lines are, anything that could in any way influence voters. They could report on closures of polling places, etc, that's about it. That should give all registered voters plenty of time to get to vote, without worrying about having to miss work, etc, polls are opened at least 16 hours a day for shift workers.
Friday night at midnight in each time zone the polls close and the counting can start.
The results are announced Monday morning.

I can plug in a little square device into my cell phone to process credit cards instantly, but we can't figure out how to make voting a legitimate process? Laughable.

And it's fraudulent by design. Its not going to change. The bright side of this election and the ensuing ridiculousness is that it shows how fraudulent the entire system is.

There are tens of millions of Trump voters who are now are very aware how fraudulent the system is, which is awesome. Even if he really did lose, the awareness is good. It'll be interesting how things move forward.
