What are people keeping an eye out for and whats the over/under on their site crashing?

I was unable to find any data indicating they are going online for the sale this year, or on what page it would be hosted. Nothing on the Spyderco forum except speculation that it might happen.

Where did you hear about it, and what’s the link?

I called them and was told they are working on trying to set up the sale but no date has been set. He also said there is a real good chance the city would not approve them to have it.

Who ever you talked to may want to check their own info because the most recent post on IG about the sale going online was posted yesterday and the most recent with dates was posted 5 days ago.

How good is this sale? I've heard of it before, and while I am not a huge fan of Spyderco knives, I've never had a higher end one. I'd check out the sale if the markdowns are very steep.

It's a good deal as long as you can live without a warranty. They will still sharpen for free though.

The last few years that I've gone as an example they've had PM2's for $50 to $60...

The Online Factory Seconds Sale will start at 10 a.m. MT on Thursday, Dec. 3rd and end at 5 p.m. MT on Saturday, Dec. 5th. When the sale goes live, a link will be available from the Spyderco.com homepage.

Posted on their forum by the girl that does that.

I lost my first Spyderco this spring after having it for 20 years and hated spending $100+ on a new one. I did it anyway and love it. As a lefty, it is difficult to find a knife that carries the same way as my original Native. I will shop the sale if I remember and maybe pick up something similar.

generally drops the prices down to where you could get them most of the year online.

where the sale shines is getting a one-off. they may have a different blade material, or a different handle on a knife they were playing around with and then sell them for cheap.

Somebody must have got the website to work because pretty much everything is sold out.

Sold out or they have it set that way because they know their site is a turd. If you know how the company is ran and organized, you would expect a failed site and the left hand not knowing what the right is doing. My wife was one of their international sales reps for years. So I’m speaking from experience.

So it?s sort of a factory second website?

You know, it was supposed to be a real website but it was found to have some flaws?

Lol.

I haven't heard of anyone successfully buying a second from the online sales event yet, but I still marvel at the people who managed to get a PS5. So maybe it's just me.

Edit- I take that back. Of the 6 knife options still in stock, I was able to buy one just now.

There weren?t many left when I looked. I didn?t care for the ones that were left.

I want to get my son a decent knife for Christmas but not 100% sure if he would truly appreciate it so not looking to break the bank to get him one.

Might have to check and see if some of the major online retailers still have any good sale prices.

I didn't understand a good pocket knife until very recently myself. It all started with a mid-priced Kershaw and got expensive from there.

Yeah I had a co-worker who was able to get an order through at around noon. So either they got some more servers online or fixed their back end issues.

I know they've been slowly releasing new options as the day has gone on but it'd be really nice if they'd drop the "out of stock" ones...

Yeah, the page is certainly getting cluttered. I don't know Spyderco knives at all, so I took a gamble based purely on blade length for the one I bought.

Awesome! The Native is a great option. A Native III was my first Spyderco.

WTF? There's a panic buy on knives, now. [panic] Not surprising, considering how the rest of the year went.

Panic buyers. I have enough knives to last a very long time. Even if I run out of all of mine I?ve seen enough crime shows to know that a knife from the kitchen will work in a pinch.

That was the only knife I was waiting for and they sold out in 2 minutes...

Maybe next year...

Wonder if they'll have $75 Nirvana's like they did last year...

I debated for a minute about buying it for myself, but I don't have the money for that. Bummer you missed "the one".

I suspect the Nirvana will also be out of my price range, should one appear on the site.

Looks like it's over a day sooner than expected. They're saying they sold out.

Which is great if they did but I know I've seen a pile of knives that don't usually sell every year that were never listed... The Mini Warrior as an example is one that almost no one has bought in years passed and they've had ton's of them. And as far as I saw... they never listed them...

Its not even made in CO! Made in Taiwan.

The major chuck on the cost is all of the CNC milling done on the single piece of Ti.

I bought a Factory 2nd Nirvana a few years ago. It was a really nice knife and the fit was great. For $300 it was worth the price. For $800? not at all... There's a ton of local makers that I'd much rather support with that kinda money.

My knives arrived today.

After buying the Native in Blue, I bought an Emphasis ($27) and an Efficient ($17).

The Emphasis and Efficient would be much nicer if they weren't prominently stamped "China" on the blade. To be clear, it's not the actual stamp that bothers me. I was not aware that most of the knives I was interested in at the seconds sale were made in Taiwan and/or China. But, I had never seriously looked at SpyderCo before. So that's on me.

All 3 lock up and open fine, and don't appear to have any wobble or other construction issues. The Emphasis appears to have a large metal void near the pivot point. I'll have to disassemble to see how bad it actually is. The other two don't have any obvious issues. What I got looks to be good value for the money. I will put away my usual edc knife for a while while I try one of these.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up on the online event.

Edit - after playing with the two chinese knives for another few minutes, I don't like either of them. The liner lock on them is difficult to hit, and rather sharp edged. It's sort of buried down in the cut handle cutout. If I want to close it with one hand it's awkward, and the lock ends up just being contacted by the top corner of my thumb. To top it off, the metal has a hard 90 degree corner which grabs my thumbnail when depressing the lock (that's how weird the angle is, my thumbnail hits it). It combines unrefined detailing that prioritized a look over function with poorly finished materials.

The Native seems just fine so far.

Good to know. I was looking for a Caribbean sheepsfoot and they are Taiwanese. I didn't catch one though, maybe next year.

I saw that one. It's a pretty cool knife and don't let the steel marked Taiwan from Spyderco scare you away.

I start a new job on the 15'th so probably won't be able to camp the website like I did last year, assuming they do it online again. Tooo bad. I'm still carrying the blue Native I bought last year. It replaced my high-end benchmade as my EDC. I was a little surprised by that. It's a nice knife that works well for my rather civilized daily knife needs. The S110V holds an edge amazingly well; I haven't had to do anything but light edge touchup on it.

Edit - the 20'th is a Saturday. So maybe I'll be able to get something after all. Neat.

Second edit - looks like it's in-person this year. Double shucks. I won't be able to drive up there.

How much of a shit show is the sale when held in person? Never been but intrigued. However, I would rather pay full price than deal with a super busy hectic mad scramble of a sale.

Lots of wating in line they only allow so many people in at a time. If it's snowing or really cold you have to really really want a new knife. They do have tons of knives to choose from at a very good discount.
