View Full Version : Anyone know a local Chorizo maker or brand?
What can I say. I like Chorizo scrambled with my eggs. But the store bought stuff is a bit greasy for my taste.
Anyone know a local place or brand of Chorizo that is not super greasy? Need a milder version as my wife doesn?t do spicy spicy.
If you want good quality low fat sausage it's better and very easy to make your own. As a young boy I visited my Dutch grandfather in Iowa and was amazed by his delicious homemade breakfast sausage. They made their own from pork.
Later when I started bring home venison the abundant tougher cuts were perfect for making sausage. Every year we make up to a dozen recipes of sausage including chorizo, usually mixed 50/50 with pork shoulder. Pork shoulder is cheap and makes great sausage all by itself. All you need is a simple food grinder and some good bulk herbs and spices from Sam's or Costco. We package in bulk or links, in ziplocs or vacuum bags depending on how much we have and how long we want it to keep. A few hours on the weekend can fill the freezer with great sausage to last months.
What have you been trying so far?
I like the King Soopers store brand for the price and ingredient list. Not spicy enough for me so I add some more.
Sprouts store brand is not as good, but they have beef, pork, and chicken for varying the fat content. Also Sprouts has a Boulder-something brand that is higher priced, not sure about the taste yet.
The best stuff would probably be at a carnaceria, but I don’t have the language skills.
I used to get Whole Foods store brand but they closed the nearby store a few years back. It was good back then, nor sure about now. It had good heat to me, but maybe a bit much for others.
Boulder Sausage makes a good chorizo. There is a Mexican market, east side of Littleton, that makes a good chorizo.

For a grocery store offering, boulder sausage is a good one.
I suggest you call clyde's down in denver, ask for Mike. Or leave a massage to order some of the chorizo they make. While you're at it, definitely grab a few 4-packs of the cured hot italian sausage.
3655 Inca St, Denver, CO 80211 worth the drive. One of the few food places we miss in CO. You can always call in an order the day before. You can order the sausage in link, coil, or bulk. Or you use to be able to. Who knows how they're operating with this virus. Try the sweet italian sausage, too.

Sara?s sausage is worth a try. I see their products in both King soopers and Safeway. Prices are typically on the higher end for sausage, but their flavor is good for all the ones I have tried.

If you have a butcher shop near you, they may make their own sausage - some are good some are not.

Some of the best. Tough choice between the beef, or pork. It's not really that pricey, except the expense to get it.
+1 for KingSoupers and Boulder sausage. I don't like having to drain the grease and want flavor but not too hot. both these are readily available good choices.

Thanks all. I did not think about Boulder sausage. Kazoo I will try that place too. And all, I will have to work my way through the suggested products one at a time.

Any local carniceria worth it's salt will have a butcher counter and homemade chorizo. ground, or longaneza. I know of a couple in Longmont, but haven't shop there. It'll be cheaper too, might need to practice you spanish.

And likely more authentic with salivary glands and lymph nodes.

I think, you're thinking of Satriale's Pork Store.
