I'm looking for a 9mm AR Pistol, and have at least for the moment settled on Foxtrot Mike. Looking for direct input on the following two models:

Model 1:
Side charging 7" barrel, but with a 2.25" "blast diffuser." I don't care about the blast diffuser's purported benefits. The rail on this model is 8.75", and with the diffuser, the total barrel assembly is 9.25". I have handled one of these, but not shot it. The rail length seems good for a normal "AR" grip--not too far out, not too close. I'm not too sure about the side charger, though. Ultimately, this a 7" model that's 9.25" long, but with no benefit on those extra 2.25" other than a more comfortable grip.

Model 2:
7" regular charging model (with a tri-lug, which i don't care about). However, this one is only 7" long, with a 5.5" rail. I've handled 7.5" ARs with shorter (5") rails, and they always seem to make you grip farther back than i'm accustomed to (and, if you wanted to mount a light to it, you're even farther back operating the tailcap switch). But, i like the true 7" length instead of the artificial "diffuser" length. Also, i think i prefer the regular charging system. I've not handled this exact model, however.

Ultimately, everything leads me to want model 2--except model 1 seems to feel more natural.

Anyone with any comments, good or bad, please weigh in.

Just got one in the shop on a transfer yesterday, Model 1: the side charger is VERY close to the muzzle...
What could possibly go wrong?

Touchpad pressure switch instead of tail cap lights eliminate your issue and allow you to go short.

I have an 9mm AR pistol with a 7" barrel, and the 7" handguard extends a 1/2" past the end of the barrel. The forward most point of the MLOK Magpul AVG is 1/4" from the end of the handguard. It seems comfortable enough.
