Looking for suggestions for mounting a red dot/prism/holographic sight on a home defense pistol--preferably one that can be left on constantly so I don't have to worry about that during a stressful situation.

The main contender that's emerged is the Holosun 510c. It has 50,000 hours of battery life--but can it be left on constantly? would the 507 be a better choice? I like the wide glass on the 510. I have an astigmatism and the Holosuns that I've looked through seem clearer than an aimpoint or similar optic. (and yes, I get that the holosun's 50,000 hours would be on the lowest setting)

Other contenders are the Vortex Spitfire, but the battery life is only 250 hours. Eotech is 1000 hours.

Ultimately, is there a better choice for this scenario (the constant on is really the most desired feature)? Something like a Vortex Razor or Venom? Delta Point Pro?

My holosun stuff on my rimfires have the shake awake feature. They turn themselves off but as soon as they are moved they are back on.

I leave my Aimpoint Pros turned on all of the time. I swap in fresh batteries once a year just to be safe.

have you ever had any problems with the shake awake? That concept gives me a little heartburn

shake awake has worked perfectly so far on my 2 Romeo 5s. I've never had the dot not be there when I pick the gun up... one has been turned on for over a year, still going strong.

Not yet but honestly they don?t see much use. One is on a rifle and one on a pistol. Both rimfire.

Shake awake shouldn?t be taken too literally. The slightest movement of the weapon and it is on instantly. I?ve played with it a bit by setting the firearm down and waiting for it to shut off. Once the dot disappears I have tried to pick it up very slowly and gently to see if I can keep the dot off but so far I?ve failed.

Happy with them so far for the price point.

I still stick with proven makes and models for my more serious firearms.

I have the Holosun 510c elite (green reticle). Never had a problem with shake awake. It is pretty sensitive to any movement. If I lean it against a wall, for example, and a heavy footed person walks by, it will come on. You don't actually have to shake it, just pick it up.
Just looked, I bought it 9/15/18. Have never changed the battery, guess I should.

For battery life reference, I am at a medium setting, with shake awake and auto brightness adjust enabled.

For fun, I pulled the 2032 battery out of my optic. Open circuit voltage on the cell is 3.05 after 2 years. I guess that's considered dead. It still works fine, but I'll grab some when I go to town this week.
