Is there a forum or group to join where people post and share strange numbers that call and find out who they belong to? I hate when I look up a number and I have to join a pay site just to see who called.
At this point, I do not answer unless I know the number. Too many numbers are spoofed, so they go nowhere, or show that they belong to someone that has nothing to do with it.

True. I don't answer them either. It would also take some people answering them to identify the non-spoofed numbers

I wait to see if they leave a message. F-them if they don't. I got tired of looking up scam callers & unsolicited Alpha Hotels.

BUT. is your student loan current?
ANY number that doesn't have an i.d. i let go to voicemail. 98% of the time the call stops after the 4th ring, with no message left.

This.
If I don't recognize the number, I don't answer.
If they don't leave a message, I ignore it all together.

How much is it per month? I keep seeing "Try free for 7 days," but not an actual price.
I just set my phone up so that calls from any number that isn?t specifically in my contacts don?t even ring. They go straight to voicemail. If I miss the unknown call and there is no voicemail then I block that number and it can never get through to my phone again.
If my phone actually rings, I know it?s someone I know.

quick google search says $4 a month or $19 a year.
I don't even answer when I actually know the caller. If they're not in my contacts, definitely not answering.

I pick them all up. I don’t have all the Dr’s, school numbers, teachers numbers, etc, programmed into my contacts. A surprisingly large percentage of my mystery calls are legitimate business,
ANI spoofing is easy to do, and easy to recognize. Anything coming in with a leading + on the number is coming from a soft phone. 99% of those are spam. But even some of those are legitimate business for me.
Answer some of them, but most I don't. I hang up pretty quickly and then block the number. There really isn't any effective way from stopping the calls completely.
The Federal Trade Commission keeps a database on scam numbers. They will sometimes send referrals out for really truly egregious cases, but the FTC has very limited juice.
Turn the ringer off. Check for msgs. when convenient.
I don't know why/how they rang through since my phone was in DND mode, but MF'ers called my cell at 0117 this morning, and immediately also rang my home number.

Check out www.fastpeoplesearch.com can look people by name, address, or phone #.
Thanks, I paid something like $4.50 a few weeks ago to look up a number and it was a total dead end.

Say that again in an Italian accent and chuckle ironically.

I don't understand why Android and Apple don't offer an out of the box option to send any non contact direct to VM. That would kill robo calls in under a year.
As it is, I do have Google call screening, which sends unknown calls to through a voice response system that basically says "state your name and purpose of call and maybe the person at this number will pick up". From there, I get a realtime transcript of the callers words and a option to connect or hang up. If I press "hang up", it plays a message for the caller to remove my number from thier list, then hangs up on them. 99.5% of callers hang up, which is just fine by me. Google also does a fairly good job of blocking spam calls and text messages, so they don't even ring or notify.
I think this is available now to more and more Android devices, but it was a pixel only feature for a while.
My phone doesn?t necessarily send unknown calls straight to voicemail but when they do call my phone doesn?t ring or vibrate.

This is part of my issue of not blocking anything that's not in my address book.
I don't generally answer most calls that aren't showing in my contacts or caller ID, but I do get frequent business calls from clients, etc. that I need to be able to answer.
I'll have to revisit the Google call screening mentioned, but I seem to recall that was only available for the google voice number, not my primary number when I last looked.

I don't know of anything modern like this, but I know there at least used to be some sort of software/something where if a person not on your contacts list called, they'd get a message indicating (I think) they should either press a number or call back and they'll be allowed through. Don't know if your clients are "cold" and would give up rather than do this, or if they know you and could indeed use it, but may be worth looking in to.

Iphones now have something like that.
If there's a check mark by the number that means that it has been verified by the carrier and is a real not spoofed number.

I don't have Google Voice, but based upon a couple articles I saw, it's still a mostly Pixel phone feature and some "select top end phones" with no list. You can sign up for beta and get the native Google Phone app itself by following the link here, it might not fully work on your phone, however. https://www.androidpolice.com/2020/08/11/google-phone-app-beta-can-now-be-installed-from-the-play-store-on-pretty-much-any-phone/#1

I just checked GV and my phone again (VZW S8) and don't see these anywhere.
My Google Pixels used the robot thing. It was automatic and I usually ended up hanging up on people accidentally. It was very annoying. It wasn't on a Google Voice number though, just my regular number.
Not sure what (app?) it was.
Tried calling an old customer (from a business I had) to get him to quit sending me checks. (If I could cash them, I'd take them, LOL)
I blocked my new number and his (phone?) said he does not accept calls from blocked numbers.
I called from a different phone and his phone said you have to state your name, then it sends you to his answering machine.
Is this one of the apps? you guys are referencing?

GV will only do screening on calls to your GV number. I have it set.

Thanks, kinda what I thought.
I don't really use my GV number, but I do have my VZW VM running through GV.

Same.
Wish I could port my number I've had for decades to GV to make my life simple, but I guess it's out of their porting area.
Oh well, GV is great for craigslist listings, etc, since you can just turn it off for a while.
Have you been getting a shitload of 5-7 second blank voicemails from the spam calls too?

Yes, I've noticed that. Seems there's a translation showing initially on my phone, but then going to GV there's nothing there and just blank voice.
I doubt GV could port my number as well - old AT&T cell now on VZW. Besides, it's a company paid plan so I'd only own the number if I left.

I've pretty much adopted the practice of just not answering phone calls from numbers I don't recognize. They'll leave a message if it's real and it's important.
