Starting to think about getting a new precision bolt gun and have come down to the 6arc and 6.5 grendel. Looking for opinions from those of you that shoot and reload those 2 calibers. Definitely gonna go with a bolt gun and not a gas gun. Thanks for any info guys.

What is the purpose of the new rifle ? There are much better cartridges out there than 6ARC and 6.5 Grendel which are compromise cartridges made to function in an AR15 .

6BR , 6 DASHER , 6 / 6.5 x 47 , 6 / 6.5 Creedmoor, 260 Rem are all better choices in a bolt rifle .

Yeah. Sort of what he said.

I am a big fan of the Grendel but mostly because it fits in the standard AR platform.

If I was wanting a 6.5 in a bolt gun I?d probably just get the Creedmore due to its recent mainstream popularity.

It will be used for Benchrest target shooting. Don't wanna sound like a pussy but my shoulder is fucked and I wanna stay with something with lighter recoil. I already have 2 223 precision rifles and want some thing with more power and shoots a heavier bullet. I looked at the 6 dasher but want something with easy to get brass that dosent have to be fire formed.

The 6br looks like a very interesting round, I'm gonna have to look in to it. Thanks

My 6.5 Creedmoor shoots very soft with a can.

6BR has factory brass available from at least 2 manufacturers. It was kind of Gucci brass before so its anybody's guess right now . Not the greatest time to try and find components for a new rifle .

The 6 BR and the 6 / 6.5x47 are going to be the lightest recoiling of the batch with good factory brass availability .

The 6 Grendel aka 6ARC aka 6AR is a kick butt caliber in a small frame AR. In a bolt action rifle there about a bazzillion better choices.

Where does 6mm GT fit in the discussion?

I?m doing a build with Short Action Customs with a goal of shooting in mid-range F class with the ability of going to 1000 yards.

6mm GT and 6.5 CM are the two calibers I?m looking at. I have a 260 Rem already but more of a cross over target/hunting rifle.

Prefer something with factory ammo since I?m not doing much reloading these days.

6GT is in the 6 Dasher area performance wise . Not sure about factory ammo availability, the Creedmoor is probably going to be the best choice for factory ammo .

Neither in a bolt gun...

@Marine24 if you're serious about competition, look at 6BR for 600y and Dasher, BRX or BRA for 1k. Unless your shooting heavy 1k, they maybe a 7/300 SAUM or 284/AI or similar. If you want to be competitive, you might as well start where you will end up anyway.

Exploring the option. Build is more PRS/NRL like but prefer the format of F class. The factory ammo is the big kicker.

@C Ward: Thanks. 6mm Creedmoor was my initial choice but came across the 6mm GT that GAP released at Shot Show in 2019. Both Prime and Copper Creek offer 6mm GT factory ammo, but 6mm CM has the nod on availability. Pricing is around $2 a round.

Del: Thanks for the calibers. I know those are the big hitters/most common. 6mm Norma BR ammo is available as a factory load from Norma and Lapua and about the price of the 6mm GT (~$2 per round). If I get hooked, a more proper F class build would be appropriate, as well as reloading.

Just was curious about the GT. A few articles on the caliber but just seemed to have fizzled.

When you throw factory ammo in the mix, get a 6.5 Creed or a 6 Creed and call it good.

You could get customer made ammo, although at a premium, from Copper Creek Or Clay's Cartridge Company.
Off the shelf ammo, Hoser's advice is correct yet again. (AKA: Mr Blutarsky :) )
I have had good luck with the Berger 6 Creed ammo.
Hornady is not consistent at all, even if it's from the same lot.

Thanks Gents. Good advice.

Apologize for derailing the original topic.

Glad I asked, been looking into the 6br and looks like that will be what I'm gonna go with. Thanks for the info guys, now I got some more homework to do.

Glad I asked, been looking into the 6br and looks like that will be what I'm gonna go with. Good call. I tried a bunch and keep going back to the 6BR. A heavy BR with a brake or can is a pussycat and a pleasure to shoot all day.
