Thinking of throwing my name in the hat for a CMP 1911. Whilst filling out the required government papers I rolled across the price and was a little surprised. $1100ish for the top (service) grade. So I jumped on gun broker and tried to get some prices. Evidently these vintage 1911's are commanding a pretty stout price.
Then I thought back to the early '90's and my early Navy days in Massachusetts when I was running the armory at South Weymouth. Twas a reserve base so we didn't rate any of the sweet new Berettas. All we had were 38's and 45's and those things took an absolute beating. I just don't know if I can bring myself to drop a cool G on one. Someone help me out here. Tell me to think of my future grandchildren, that it's an investment in the future, or look at the greater good or something.

The top of the line service grade ones that sell for $1100 have been complety arsenal refinished, they are for the most part new handguns. I got a field grade and it is tight, not a clapped out 1911 like everyone claims these were going to be. I would buy another one in a heart beat if I could but they are limiting them to one per person.

People are reselling tbese on gunbroker for substantially more than what they paid for them.
