View Full Version : Colorado State Tactical Rifle Championship, 2023
Its back for 2023.
Big Ben Tactical Rifle and Pueblo Tactical Rifle have joined up to bring you the 2023 State Championship.
And... Thunderbeast Arms has joined up to be the Match Sponsor. https://thunderbeastarms.com
02-03 Sept in Ramah Colorado.
9 stages. 6 close up and 3 medium range. You will shoot 6 stages Saturday and 3 stages on Sunday. Set up will start Friday at daybreak.
Paper and steel targets with hit factor scoring.
Recognized divisions will be Tactical, He-Man, Limited and Open.
Absolutely no steel core ammo or bi-metal jacketed ammo.
No refunds after 01 August. Slots are non-transferrable.
After signing up on PS, you must mail in payment the old fashioned way. If we dont get your $$$ within a week, welcome to the wait list.
Only 120 slots avail.
Contact Sean or myself with questions. Sean is the Range Master, Justin and Matt are the Assist Match Directors and I am the Match Director. Charlene will be there to manage stats and maybe try to keep Sean and I from doing stupid things.

Giggle
Half the slots are already filled.
The match is mostly full.
If you signed up but have yet to send in your match fee, you are running out of time.
Practiscore is starting to remove people from the match that have not paid. So if you signed up for the match a month ago and then decided you didnt want to send in payment, dont be surprised when you are stuck on the waitlist.
Six suppressor certificates from Thunderbeast showed up today. Very cool move on their part.
If you dont shoot the match you have zero chance of winning one.
The match is full and the wait list is going. If you want to shoot it, get on the wait list. Chances are pretty good you will be able to shoot.
If you dont get on the wait list, I can guarantee you wont be able to shoot.
I had a few people move from the main match to the wait list for non payment of match fees, so that opened up a few more slots to people on the wait list.
If you want to shoot, sign up and get on the wait list. Chances are that someone will cancel out and you will get a slot.

Two more slots opened up this week and were filled in minutes.
This months Tactical Rifle Match is also the State Championship. It filled up all 100 slots in record time. However there has been lots of movement on the wait list. If you want to shoot it, get on the wait list. Chances are pretty good you will get in.

Ok everyone. The stages are posted to the Practiscore initial sign up page. So, If you are already signed up for the match, you can go to the match under "view Dashboard" under your user ID icon. Once on your registration page for the match, click on the hyperlink for the match in the top right of the page and it will take you to the general match registration page and you can see the schedule and stages.
Nothing is written in stone, there could be changes due to errors or match management, but this is pretty solid.
Yep, weak hand shooting, reloading, shooting far accurately, and going fast have all been incorporated into the stages.
Everything is set.
Set up starts Friday at daybreak.
The match starts Saturday at 8:15. Please arrive no later than 7:30 to get checked in.

Ooooooh! So Exciting! [rockon]
Historical, First One.
Its a wrap.
Huge thanks to our main match sponsor, Thunderbeast Arms. They donated a lot of free suppressors to the table. Thanks also to Bison Tactical for donating a few of their awesome Udder rear/barricade bags. Thanks also to Traust Shooting Bags for doing the plaques for the match. Without these guys stepping up to support you and this match, competitive shooting would suffer.
Thanks to everyone that made it possible.
Justin, Assistant Match Director and T-Shirt and patch design dude
Sean, Range Master
Charlene, Stats
Lots of people came out at daybreak Friday to help with set up. Quite a few of them are also members here on the forum.
As of right now we will do it again next year in Pueblo. Last weekend in June. Set up Friday, shoot Sat/Sun. See you there.

I've been wanting to do one of these ever since I found out about them. I've never even seen one though, and I have no idea what gear is needed and which rifle would be most appropriate. Are there videos I can watch to get an idea of what to expect for next time?
To be honest, not knowing anything about them has kept me from signing up.

Here's a vid from my tactical rifle match. It's very similar. Then again I do the stage designs for both along with Hoser for the state match. Hoser and I both run a tactical rifle match. There are some vids of Hoser's match archived on my site also.

Most people use a basic 16-18 inch AR and 30 round mags. 1-4/6/8 scopes are common. A few people use a dot and fewer use irons. Some pueblo shoot in He-Man division which requires a 308 or 30-06.
Seans match (Ramah) differs from mine (Pueblo) in that targets my stages start at 100 yards, go out to 300 yards and are all steel where Seans match they start at 3 yards, go out to 200 yards and are a mixture of paper and steel.
I normally tell people to bring 200 rounds to a match and bring 3-4 mags and have a mag pouch or two on their belt.

My wife reminded me that June 26th is my youngest son's birthday and then started at me daring me to say something smart. I came up blank.
Next time, and I appreciate the information.

Easy fix. Come to a monthly match. First Saturday in Ramah or fourth Sunday in Pueblo West.
Last chance to get in.
Next weekend is game day.
Well, we made it. Other than the wind drama, it was a pretty nice day. At the range with friends doing a little shooting.
We cant say enough good things about our match sponsors. Thunderbeast Arms, AccuFire Optics, Traust Bags, Burris Optics and DCF Guns. PLEASE send them an email to say thank you so they will do it again next year. Even better, also tell the world how cool they are on their social media pages.
Lost and found... If you left a metal water bottle at the range, get in touch with me to claim it. And if you left some ear muffs at the range, get in touch with me to claim it.
As a side note, it rained at the range last night. It quickly turned into a mud pit and the range caretaker closed the range this morning.

Lastly, thank you to the set up crew and my staff for making it all happen.
See you next year.
And go...

Hurry up and get signed up. The longer you wait, the more expensive it gets for you and the harder you make it on match staff.
Last chance.

Everything is set for the match.
Camping at the range will be allowed.
Leave steel core ammo at home.
If you are one of the few that signed up but havent sent in payment, fix yourself.
Huge thanks to your match staff for making this happen. Sean Myhre, Charlene Jones, George Delena, Matt Hess, Nico Dattels and Kirt Mckenna. They all did a ton of work on match day and also behind the scenes. Without them, it would not have happened.
And our awesome set up crew spent all day Thursday getting it done. Sean Myhre, Dan Hachenberger, Tanner Jones, George Delena, Matt Hess, Brock Flynn, Nico Dattels and Kirt Mckenna.
Also thanks to Thunderbeast Arms for throwing six free suppressor certificates on the prize table. Please call or email them to say thank you so they will continue to support your match. sales@thunderbeastarms.com Your calls and emails matter. Really, they do.

Please email, call, text me with any suggestions on how to make things better for future matches. Without your input, I will just continue to make the same stupid mistakes.
As a reminder, on 07 Oct Ramah will have a night match and on 22 Oct Pueblo will have their annual AK vs AR match.
