Ccw renewal

I have a ccw and a fair bit of time before it expires. I am looking for suggestions on how long before the expiration i should i submit renewal?

It could be different from county to county. I would go to the county or sheriffs website and see what they say. I did mine during the Covid nonsense and it was rather easy.

Statutorially, you can renew your permit up to 120 days before it expires. Keep in mind you receive no "credit" for the time remaining on the unexpired permit, so if your county is particularly efficient, and issues the renewal in 3 weeks, your new permit will expire 5 years from date of issue, not 5 years from date of previous expiration.

My renewal this summer in Boulder County took something like 2 weeks and was done entirely via email.

In early 2020, El Paso county took 90 days and more for an ordinary renewal. Nevermind that I have ~20yrs here with never even a speeding ticket [Flower]

Adams county had their ducks in a row during my renewal. Made an appointment, showed up and checked in, and less than ten minutes later I was walking out with my new permit in my hand.

I was just notified the other day for my renewal here in Larimer county. I'll post the results once complete.

was looking at the Arapahoe County site for renewals--i think my training was more than 10 years ago. I looked at some other counties and they don't mention that requirement. Is it back to a trainer for me?

Arapahoe has been like Denver in requiring renewed training every 10 years in the past. The current situation may have changed that

At least in Jeffco, as long as you don't let it lapse, you don't need to repeat training.

If it's expired for more than a month or two, then it's basically like applying for the first time and you'd need new training.

edit: sorry, I had never heard of any county requiring updated training for renewals.

Per the arapahoe website,
if you are applying for the first time you need to bring: "Original certification, New Permit Application, Colorado Driver’s License"
if you are renewing you need to bring "CHP Permit, Renewal Permit Application (we will notarize it here), Colorado Driver’s License"

I'm guessing "original certification" is the training certificate, and it's only showing as required on a first time application.
