Was just notified via mail I was overpaid for unemployment last year......thing is I was not unemployed last year! (Knock on wood)
They seemed to have just used my first and middle name but had my address correct!
Our office manager recently asked us not file unemployment claims during the pandemic because of course we were not eligible. Now she stated just today that she had gotten notified she was filing and the info was close but not complete.

Has anyone had anything similar happen?
Read some articles that this is widespread in CO recently.

Article from the other day said they had more fraudulent claims than real ones.

"Our office manager recently asked us not file unemployment claims during the pandemic because of course we were not eligible"

And what profession are you in?

When I got home from being out of town over new years weekend, there was a letter from CO dept of labor unemployment insurance division with a personal unique pin # and an envelope from usbank with a debit card enclosed (reliacard is what they call it). All in my full name and mailed to my house.

Cancelled that and filed reports that monday. Work said they had seen a rash of false filings.

My wife got tagged with this scam too, their HR department said a number of employee identities had been used for unemployment scams.

Charter School. Small school and they really looked out for us.
We are salaried.

Someone tried to pull a paycheck protection loan under my wife's name. Fraud is absolutely rampant in government programs.

VP at work got a call from HR saying they received an unemployment claim in his name, were denying the claim and that he needed to lock down his ID, passwords and whatnot. I know states operate differently, but shouldnt the unemployment claims be verified by the employer? I cant see how enough of these get through the system to make the effort worthwhile to the scammers.

I received an unemployment debit card and a 1099 for a person using my address (that's never lived here unless it was over 23 years ago). No homeowners on my street with the name.

I reported the fraud to the unemployment commission.

My whole family got enrolled in Medicaid under the Cares Act. We don’t come close to qualifying due to income.
I didn’t even know. I had gotten mail from Medicaid but just threw it in trash. When I went to change our insurance last November at Healthcare.gov, it said we were not eligible because we were enrolled in Medicaid. Took three months to unwind that because nobody has ever tried to get off Medicaid before.
Apparently in Alaska Medicaid dropped income requirements to enroll, so somehow they opened a case for us without our knowledge or consent.

Recent article mentioned more then 17M fraudulent claims reported across the US - not noticed until people got W2-G's for income tax on the "unemployment payments" they never filed for.

More FSA fraud at the government teat.

My HR notified me that someone filed for Unemployment in my name. I haven't received anything at the house regarding it. Filed a report with CDLE.

Unemployment fraud sounds like a lot of work.

When your a low life scum bag with nothing else to do all day. I would imagine most of these people probly work harder and put in more time than just getting a legit job.

My wife is having the opposite problem. She hasnt worked since Jan 1, and their system was down for maintainence for three weeks. Now, she has not been able to get back pay, and they have only paid for one week this year. Everyone at her restaurant are having the same problem, including the manager. You can't call and the one time the manager got through, the guy said he didnt know what the problem was and hung up on her.

Kyle Clark on Channel 9's Next at 6:00 pm has been following this for quite a while, and Channel 9's reporters seem to have a new expose and interview every day.
Between the lack of staff, trying to upgrade the computers at CDLE, Governor Polis focusing on Vaccines, and total overwhelming of the system, the result is phone calls unanswered, checks not sent, and a huge influx of fraud.
It seems they are trying to eliminate the fraud before they attempt to clear the backlog of legitimate claims.
And, there does not seem to be anyone in charge that can do anything.
Some might say that it is typical government incompetence, but it appears much more serious.

I told the manager next time she talks to them, tell them she is going to keep all the employees unemployment contributions because she could manage it better than the .gov. I doubt she will, but the thought is there.

so you're saying because he wears a sport coat his investigation is wrong in some way?

We don't all wear chaps with no pants down to the "club" here.

Yep, everyone has to have a gimmick to survive in today's excuse for a news show.
I get real tired of his constant lecturing and posing.
But, the alternatives at 6:00 pm are worse.
Isn't that a sad commentary?

Channel 2. Big Bang Theory. Sure it is reruns, but still better than Clark.

I've pretty much turned off watching MSM news. It's a big change from when I used to consume the daily paper and nightly news religiously but weeding through the agit-prop is just too much work these days. Heck, I don't even bother with network TV anymore. I'd rather watch classic shows off DVD or Blu-ray (just ordered the complete series of "Quantum Leap") and anime via CrunchyRoll than tha garbage that masquerades as entertainment today.

The History Channel no longer shows actual history, Discovery Channel is only useful for discovering your navel lint, and the Food Network rarely has anything to deal with cooking or real food prep now -- it's almost all stupid competitions these days. This must be what Romans felt around AD 700 ...

I have been watching LAFF Channel and Antenna TV off of the HD antenna. Simple 60?s through early 90?s sitcoms. Funnier than anything out now.

Have an employee who quit in 2019. Started a claim against us after the virus relief went into effect in 2020. State has been paying them and hitting our account ever since. Too swamped to even assign a case worker to investigate thus far.

My son's HR notified him this week someone tried to make a claim.

I haven't seen the letter, but he also received mail from the Unemployment Office.
