View Full Version : USPS Sucks.

I imagine the thread title is no shocking revelation that causes any of you to clutch your pearls, but I had the opportunity to be reminded of how badly USPS sucks again today. Ordered a very fancy pair of cross-cut mammoth tooth grips from a vendor who's work I quite like. One-of-a-kind type of thing. USPS shows it as 'delivered' to my group residential mail box, but it isn't there, and they can't say that it was ever placed in my actual unit box. A week after I fill out the mail delivery investigation form, I get a response today that basically washes their hands of it. The seller has been very gracious about it, and has offered to replace the grips he has with something else in stock, or consider a refund. But these were one-of-a-kind. Some folks will say 'Covid', or 'Louis Dejoy', but Windsor Post Office sucked long before being afflicted by any of these things, and has the dubious reputation of the most complaints filed against a post office in a single year. Go Windsor!
Anyways, figured I'd come here to vent, and because some of you might get a kick out of my rage letter to the USPS supervisor assigned to Windsor PO. I had to revise it three times to get all the swear words out:

Subject: Like Hell it Has: Your USPS Service Request #23138060 Has Been Resolved!
Jeremy:
As you and I both are very well aware, you were brought in to help with the Windsor Post Office because it was a flaming train-wreck of lost mail and abysmal customer service before Covid. And while I appreciate the nice language that you will continue to look for the package, it is hard to put much credence in that when the header language of your reply tells me that my 'USPS Service Request has been resolved!'
What was shipped to me was a unique, hand crafted set of cross-cut mammoth grips worth approximately $475. The craftsman who made them has very graciously agreed to work with me, but the item itself is not easily replaced. I've lived in Windsor for over a decade now, and put up with the abysmal dumpster-fire of a post office that you now have the misfortune of representing for a long time. I've met a lot of my neighbors while redistributing misdelivered mail in my community, and in others surprisingly far from me, and while I appreciate the way that the Windsor Post Office has bridged the political divide by uniting us all against your agency, we'd all rather just get our mail.
What I expect from you is not to bust down doors until my item is recovered, but it is something more than this canned response. The idiot assigned to my route giving me a personal apology for his incompetence would be a good start. But whatever it is, it needs to be more than this.
I've forwarded a copy of this response to Congressman Ken Buck?s office, which, as you well know, is intimately aware of the problems with your dumpster-fire of a post office, so they have yet another complaint to add to the stack. At this point, I fear it will literally take an act of Congress to uncluster the Windsor Post office.
Yours in profound frustration,
JohnnyEgo
Most people don't realize that once a purchase has been made, the purchaser is responsible for everything, including shipping.
If it is lost in shipping, that is the purchasers problem, etc.

Curious. Why do you think it is just the Windsor office? I will have you know that your community is not special in this regard.

Sounds like windsor and wellingtons post offices are in a race to see who is the shittyist in northern Colorado.
This thread needs to become a repository for synonyms for "dumpster fire."
I'll post as I come up with ideas.

Two weeks ago I had a package 'delivered'. To some other address. When queried the package was not found at the other address or anywhere else.
Fortunately it wasn't $475 (~$50) and the frustration level is no where near yours, I can in a small way relate.

This is a vital need. Once I removed all the profanity in my rage email, I also struggled with it being a bit repetitive. When I cannot swear, I cannot truly express myself.

I sure can relate to that. I'm trying to transition into the office in the near future so I am trying to be more professional in the office. Its hard to break the thats what she said habbit........especially when my main coworker and boss know I am trying to.

Missing package for John Ego or JohnnyEgo. It's another one of those weekly opportunities to get to know the neighborhood a little better courtesy of the United States Postal Service. A package was allegedly delivered to me on February 17th from SKGrips. So if you happened to get an unexpected delivery from USPS with either 'John Ego', 'Johnny Ego', or some derivation of both, I'd be very excited to hear from you. And thanks, Windsor USPS, for once again giving me the opportunity to engage with my community.

Well, it's been more than a week, and I suspect somebody is enjoying a unique set of serialized cross-cut mammoth grips. Hope you find them as pretty in person as I did when I forked over $500 for them.

My eyes are failing me, I thought this was a USPSA thread...
If they happen to be mis delivered to me I promise to get them to you if only to see them mounted on the rig they are intended for. Good luck and hope they magically appear in your box.
I am amazed you were able to maintain your composure when providing your response. A very well crafted letter. You are a better man than I. Hope the grips are located and delivered.
I appreciated the subject line.

Shipped with or without insurance for the value of the item ?
JohnnyEgo

With, though not to full purchase price from the receipt I've been given. I suspect the amount reflects material cost to the maker. Will be interesting to see how the claim plays out, if he tells me, because the status is 'delivered', even though they acknowledge it was only scanned in proximity to the group box, and they can't say for certain it was placed in my actual unit box. Given the warning notices they have about the extra time claims are taking because of Covid, I doubt there will be an answer soon.
Because the status shows as 'delivered' by the courier, the seller could have washed his hands of it entirely, and left me to fight it out with USPS on my own. But to his credit, he immediately said he'd step up and take care of me.

The last time I ran into this, the post office refused to pay the insurance claim on my package because they claimed it was delivered. Nothing I said could move them off the lie.

My wife had a USPS package start in Oklahoma on Nov 19, bounce around
for a while in Colorado during Nov and Dec before going to Illinois and Wisconsin.
Today the last status shows , "Dec 18th Madison Wisconsin, in-transit to next facility".
After USPS said there was nothing they could do and the seller said sorry not our problem.
She sent the tracking info to Paypal who refunded her money.

USPS should just be dissolved...
Eff'in useless unionized twats...
ETA:
Talk to the folks you are buying from. Have them ship via UPS or Fedex. It may cost a little extra, but at least you'll get what you ordered. I've had a couple folks that didn't want to, until it was going to cost them a sale...
USPS Sucks
Yes, yes it does.
Devils Advocate time.......... If you have prior experience with USPS being unreliable, then why did agree to ship the item via USPS?
Some lessons need to be relearned several times before they are actually "Learned".
Post office insurance is such a joke. By way of example, I've had overnight shipments delivered three weeks late and wanted the $20 back for the shipping cost. You go to the store, they tell you they can't process refunds there and you have to do it online. You go online, and the claim system would tell you to do it in the store. Never got one refunded, ever.
It has to be a friggen nightmare to get them to pay when you do lose something (like those grips). I'm sure it's all telephone runaround and deferring blame, probably costs $600 worth of work to get a $300 insurance payment.

"Other shoulder" : I can't remember the last time I've seen an online merchant give you a choice. I know some exist, I just haven't seen them. Significant majority just charges you a fee and doesn't even tell you how it will show up. And... it ends up being whatever they can make the best margin on, usually USPS. Aaaand, it doesn't show up.
USPS are liars and thieves. There is zero accountability with USPS, those pricks think they're doing us a favor, typical 'crats.
I FUCKING HATE USPS so much that I paid $12 to FedEx a letter.

Not sure where you are ordering stuff from but just about every vendor I ordered from gives me shipping options.
My biggest problem is I?m kind of a cheapskate so when the option is $8 for USPS or $15 for UPS or $21 for FedEx I have a hard time justifying paying the extra money.
Even if you request signature required, that no longer means anything in the age of COVID.
Dealing with USPS is as efficient and customer oriented as the federal government.
?Give us your hard earned dollars, but don?t go expecting anything useful from it.?
USPS UPS and FedEx all do not have guarentee on overnight at this time.
They all sucks. :D
Took FedEx express overnight priority 3 days.
In the small rural post offices I use in Ward, Allenspark, Clifton and Palisade I find good, friendly people who go out of their way to provide good service. It's when I go to larger post offices like Boulder and Grand Junction that I find aloof and careless workers not inclined as public servants. I expect it's the union work environment. I also think the Covid situation has aggravated inefficiencies particularly in the distribution centers causing delays and mis deliveries. It's probably widened the door for thieves both within and outside the postal service.
Last summer and fall I had two packages disappear that were sent to my second address in Palisade. One was from a cousin in California and the other from a friend in France, both worth about $50. They should have either have been delivered or returned but without tracking numbers the USPS can do nothing. If only I could have GPS tags inserted in the packages.... I'd like to visit the recipients.

I figured out if your filing anything that can get by without an original-in-ink signature, hire a local courier to print it out and bring it in. That's the only way for things to be on time anymore (clerk filings, document requests in some places, courts in rare cases, etc). So many times they aren't even looking if it's original-in-ink anyway.
Often cheaper than overnight shipping too.

Used to be you had to get a clearance to work for the USPS, the military could send classified documents through the post office up “Secret” classification
I doubt they can do that anymore.

These were made by a guy who runs his single owner/employee hobby business out of his home and sells the grips in the parts and accessories section of a forum very similar to this one. We're not talking Amazon here. The option was 'here's the price, send me a check and your address and I will ship it to you'. I try to avoid USPS with most places that give me the option, but it isn't always an option, and I don't fault him for shipping in the way that has presumably worked for him to this point. Instead, I fault the Windsor Post Office and whatever dirt-bag neighbor found these in his box and decided to call them his own.

I don't want to give you nightmares, but I can just imagine these grips duct taped to a universal tv remote, a push mower, or the steering wheel of a Chrysler Sebring right now.

Or worse yet, tossed in the trash because the recipient did not know what they were.
I had a large check delivered to the wrong person who did not look at the address on the envelope.
He thought it was advertising and tossed it in a basket to read later.
Days later he opened it, saw the amount of the check, and sent it on to me, with a note of apology.
We were frantic trying to track it, because it was reported as delivered.

Fwiw I saved the photo to my phone for reference. If I see them I'll see about them being returned to you.
[Edit] my husband said I needed to edit my previous reply because my ' body & grips' humor wasn't appropriate.
I saw one of usps conveyor had one package rolling, but I could not find a video similar below.

So after several days of providing constant application of middle-aged dad rage combined with 20-odd years of employer-subsidized desensitization to the soul-crushing repetition of administration and bureaucracy on my part, Jeremy called me today to tell me that they recovered my package and it would be waiting for me on his chair in his office. The kid at the counter who ran back to get it apologized to me on behalf of the post office several times, so I suspect, briefly, I was the talk of the office.
Not a great picture because the sun had already set by the time I got home with them, but here they are:

I have a package which is MIA for 7 days st denver facility.
Buyer is unhappy. If not found, I would have to refund the buyer. Then usps collects shipping fee from me anyways.
Fk..
So, what, did they find the package hiding behind the time stamp machine?
Beautiful piece! You have an artful eye.

Living where I do I prefer fedex and ups. Not saying any are better than the other but USPS does not deliver to my house. My mail box is 2 miles away and if a package wont fit I have to go to town to pick it up at the post office. I have a huge mail box so most of the time it fits but not always at least UPS and Fedex come up the drive way and drop it at my door.

I feel like this story isn't over yet. So usually they just say "sorry" and wash their hands of the matter, but lean on them hard enough and stuff gets found. That feels like evidence of much larger problems. I'd continue to bark up the chain. I'm sure even Ken Buck's office will just want you to take your win and go away now so they don't have to deal with anything.
In a post above I mentioned a package from France that was lost in the mail. Yesterday, it arrived back in France, returned after 3 months and 4 days. It was a book my friend had authored and dedicated to me. It had to be handled manually for the USPS to return it and one can imagine the real cost to both country's mail systems to return it. So why wouldn't the postal employee simply look up my address and forward it? It's not like I'm a John Smith, my name is unique in the world.

Not that I meant to be away from this thread for a couple days, but work is hell. One of my harassment techniques was to send my email correspondence to every flavor of potential individual USPS.gov email I could think of. Stuff like johnny.ego@usps.gov, johnnyego@usps.gov, jego@usps.gov, j.ego@usps.gov, etc. The USPS is tricky about only giving out the generic contact box address, but I figured if I spammed it with enough derivations, at least one format would find the mark. I threw several flavors of Louis DeJoy in there for good luck, as well. Every day, twice a day.
Anyways, when Jeremy called me back, he told me that it was 'misdelivered', but didn't specify much beyond that. Now that a couple days have passed, I can't recall what else he specifically said to me, but I do remember one thing that stood out. He did a masterful job of implying that there would be serious consequence for the route carrier, without specifically stating what action, if any, would be taken. As a guy who's job it is to choose my words very carefully, I recall being impressed by the non-commitment commitment. Something about an entry into a log or personnel file that was already fairly robust and/or this one might be the last straw. Or maybe nothing, I don't know. I left the conversation feeling like I achieved something, only to later doubt it. Anyways, game respects game. Well done, Jeremy.
Mildly better light today, though these grips are polished so smooth that it is hard to get a picture without glare.

Big brown got notification of package to pick up 2pm yesterday in Kentucky and was asked to deliver it to my door step in 24 hrs or less. It was handed to Mrs. bo(standing on door step) at 11am this morning.
Piss on USPS and Fedex.
I just had my mailman hold the kickout on my sliders up while I tacked it into place with the welder. Also he gets my mail to my house every time. We've had good luck with steady mail guys. Having a temp is where we run into trouble.

My regular carrier out here is awesome, even puts up with me after she got stuck in the yard. When she's out, we have issues. I get other people's mail that live several miles away. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't know anyone out here.
Yeah they do. I ordered two mags for my rifle and they say delivered, go to my mailbox... not there go ask a few neighbors and the one across the street had them

I don't know if we even have a regular carrier. What I do know is pretty much every week I get someone else's mail including packages for multiple other addresses.
