Sounds like things got a little fast and furious in Aurora last night. Luckily, the police have been defunded....

(https://kdvr.com/news/local/street-racers-gridlock-i-225-police-say-600-vehicles-blocked-access/)AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) ? Aurora police said street racers blocked access to southbound Interstate 225 from Alameda Avenue to Colfax Avenue on Sunday night.

According to police, about 600 to 800 vehicles were involved and intentionally blocked access on the shoulders of the highway.

Police said there were reports of fireworks, smoke and weapons being waved.

The area was cleared before midnight, but police said it was possible the group would continue street racing in other areas.

City Council members say street racing has been an ongoing issue in Aurora and the surrounding metro for years, noting a proposal is in the works to help combat the problem.

In February, street racing was brought up at Aurora?s Public Safety Policy Committee meeting; according to local lawmakers, police said they are looking into both local and state legislation to help stop the issue.

Looks like a perfect application for an A10, but remediation of the pavement from the 30mm impacts could get expensive.

I miss the good ol days of tower and monico we street raced our asses off but nobody waved weapons or acted like assholes. I still have my car 461 cubes of BB chevy built to the house. Then we had the dog pound in longmont ect. Good times but back then it was all good hell the cops would hang out at tower and watch us race. Tower was an old air strip along I-70 in a field totaly safe good times. To bad dipshits have to ruin it and jeopardize others we played it safe unlike the idiots today.

The street outlaws are sanctioned its a reality tv show and not real. There is no way in hell they could do what they do with out all hell breaking loose. Back in the day we street raced and as I mentioned in an above post we played the game and did not endanger the public. It was still illegal but we were smart about the locations and the risks. Now days you have a bunch of millineals with a fart can on their car and think it makes it fast and they have no commonsense much less a fast car.

This was how I rolled back in the day.

Exactly! The TV show plays by the rules because they have to. But they make the street douchebags think it's OK.

It started out real. I've never seen the show, so I'm sure it's staged and legal. Look up the older Cash Days, you'll recognize some of the cast before the TV show. Still plenty of street racing.

The one time I built an import car I took it to an exhaust shop with the very explicit instruction to just build the exhaust, with no tip of any kind. I just wanted the same size pipe after the muffler. Those dipshits down at Bud's Muffler built the exhaust as a one piece from the header to the bumper, and put a 5" tip on it. I was so pissed. It was the only exterior mod I had on the entire car (unless you count the battery shut off I installed in the back glass).

sorry to hear that buds muffler was family friends always took care of us never had a problem with them. But everyone has a different experience with with different shops. I know all the people in Denver from back in the day hell even mad cap (dave copriottie) bailed my ass out once when I ran the super chevy show. They put the parts I needed in a screen door so I could pick it up after hours many memories of the days. I can tell you this we never had fart cans and we ran real shit. I didnt by any means have the fastest car but in the street racing world I was in the mix. I could have sprayed it but never did fuck it was all I could do to keep it hooked up as it was.[Coffee]

Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE said that Bud's Muffler was the place to go. People had all kinds of race car exhausts built from them and they had the best reputation. I think I sent my car down there at a time when they were getting too popular and quality went way down. The O2 bung was over an inch tall of chicken shit welds like the gas was turned off. It was incredible. I was just a kid though so nothing ever came out of it. I don't think they actually got paid for that work though.

Like I said dont know what happened buds was the shit never did anybody wrong that I know of to each their own. My advice go fined a better fart can installer that might not be their specialty. on a side note want to see some real shit and i bet most wont have a clue about this BB chevy valve train. Its a roller motor and the spring pressure is 700 lbs per sq inch at full lift its a nasty bitch. For those that dont know your stock motor is probably 180 lbs at full lift. stock valve lift is around 350 to 400 this bitch is 730 almost 3/4 of an inch. Hence the stud girdle and arp studs. The valve train is all isky the cam father new his shit. except the stud girdle thats moroso.

One of the interesting question is always "what is a street car"?

At a basic level, screwing with emission controls, changing seatbelts, non-DOT tires make them illegal to use on the street.

Any of the EPA/DOT safety/emissions equipment must remain on a street vehicle. As an example, look at the some of the early GT-series 911s. They had normal 911 seats. People bought the GT seats and installed after purchase. Why? Because the GT seats were not street use approved in the USA from crash testing.

Then, there is "street legal" which means it can kinda drive on the street (for some duration).

What was always an interesting concept was the "street king" motorcycle classes that were drag racing. Denver really didnt get them. But the rules were they had a 30 to 50 mile street course with a lead bike and a tail bike. The bikes all had to ride the "loop" and if they went in front of lead pace bike or dropped behind rear pace bike, they were DQed. They had low speed stop and go, some highway, etc. Then they arrived at drag strip. All bikes idled until they were shut down at the same time. They had to sit one minutes. Then restart (under their own power). Any bike that did not start in 30 seconds (after the 1 minute off/heat soak) was DQed.

Basically it has to really be driven on the street.

If you were at I70-Monico or Tower, you know a lot of the "street cars" were trailered in or trailered close.

And it was typical back in the day street racing. Lots of BS. Lots trash talking. Lots of lying. Cash bets. Always had to make sure that it was very clear what vehicle was racing and who was driving. The guy showing up and trying to get someone to race "my car"...well... he might have had car #1 sitting there smack talking.... car #2 was in a trailer... he wasn't saying WHICH of his cars you were racing...

Also was not always the safest place. There were guns/drugs/drugs money there. Some of those guy would have no issues shooting you for screwing with them..

I beg to differ arguing street legal is like arguing which brand of gun or caliber is the best. Yes the EPA has their laws ect but the fact remains its not enforced or abided by. Yes there was the trailer boys as we called them they pulled that shit I never did. Hell many times I had 10 gallons of sunoco or b32 race fuel in jazz jugs in the back seat yes I know not the smartest thing I ever did. I drove my car all the way to longmont up wadsworth the back way when you have a ford 9 inch detroit locker and 4:88 gears the highway is off limits.

However I never seen any drugs or guns ever. that part is bullshit I ran it and never seen it. I always had my gun in the console but never once did I ever feel the need to pull it. I only ran Monico a few times never liked it to many side streets and then you hit I-70 over 100 mph. Tower was the best and longmont was great also but again im not saying what I did was smart it was the way it was. Claiming it was dangerous with drugs and guns is bullshit never once did I ever see that. You ran your shit put the money on the hood and payed up always somebody independent held the cash.

I agree with most of your points except the fact of the drugs and guns.

Amen! reality is different than the movies I will never forget one night in Longmont a kid with a small block nova wanted to race me and I said sure im game. (the kid had a badass nova built to the shit house) One of the old timers told the kid "Son that big block is about to take you to sunday school" That was reality no money was bet on that race I just ran the kid for fun.
