We are moving. Where we live now we can only get 12 megs of DSL through Century link. Thinking of going with Xfinity. Was wondering about cost? quality of service? And are there "Surprise" charges on your first bill that they don't tell about?
Thanks in advance.
QOS has been great for me, I only use their internet. Buy your own Motorola Surf Board modem so that you don't have to pay the modem rental fees. Every client of mine that has has Century Link absolutely hated it and were always having issues with them, that was with the old DSL system, not sure how they have been doing in the areas where they have gone to fiber in the last couple years.

i have had no problems at all with internet cable service. very fast, and when there's an outage, it's not for long (and the outages are very infrequent.).
i cut the cord on cable tv from them more than 2 years ago and have never looked back.

I've been with them since 2005 at three different addresses. I think they're probably the best choice. Everyone bitches about the cable company but we haven't really had any major problems. I've been working from home now for a year (actually my last day working in the office was literally one year ago today) and I think our internet has only gone out twice or maybe 3 times in the whole year, and the longest it was out was maybe 4 hours. The other two times it was less than 2 hours.
As far as charges go, they don't necessarily have "hidden" fees, but they do the "we'll give you a promotional rate for 12 months and then it will go back to the 'regular' (higher) price" trick.
We get both cable TV (very basic, no premium, no on-demand, no voice-remote) and internet. For a while we were paying about $90/month and then when our "promotion" ran out, it went up to about $115. Still reasonable, IMO.
In past years, when our bill went up at the end of the "premium" period I'd call and complain and they'd offer me a different "package" at a premium rate for another year. While that worked what it often meant was that we'd lose some of the TV channels we watched, so this time I just let it ride at the non-premium rate since the channels we would lose would be things like HGTV and Animal Planet which my wife watches a lot and when the grandkids are here they like Animal Planet too.
I've really not heard much positive about Century Link. My mom had cable when she was in her condo and then last year we moved her into an independent living apartment where they only had Century Link. It was a real PITA to get anyone from C-Link to even pick up the phone and they blew off at least two appointments to get her hooked up. I think it took at least 3 weeks to get her internet and phone finally connected.
By contrast, in 2017 when we moved from Englewood to Littleton/Columbine, Comcast/Xfinity literally sent a tech out the day we moved and he got us hooked up that day (even though it meant running a cable from a nearby house, since the previous owners of our house didn't have cable.)
About a month ago, our little cable TV box quit late in the afternoon. I spent an hour or so on the phone with tech support trying to get it restarted but it never did. Next day my wife went over to the Xfinity office at SW Plaza and picked up another box and turned in our old one and by noon we had our cable back on.
So I would say in terms of overall quality of service and value for the dollar, Xfinity/Comcast is probably the best choice.
EDITED TO ADD: If you go with Comcast, definitely buy your own modem. If you use their modem it will cost you something like $15/month and you can buy a modem for around $120 at Micro Center.
It's not the first bill you have to worry about. It's the bill you get after 6 months.
That being said, it's the better option in the metro, unless your neighborhood has municipal fiber (a friend in centennial has a municipal fiber connection).

I have used them forever and it has been very reliable and fast. I do live in a newer neighborhood with the latest and greatest infrastructure though.
Xfinity is great Internet service, I have a Comcast card in my Tivo system, AND...because I have Xfinity Internet, Xfinity Mobile cell phone service is $20 month for 2 lines(bring your own phone) which really runs on the Verizon cell network.

I've been getting great cable Internet service from them. The last time I changed routers, I had to take a set box for TV as well even though I told them I don't use them for TV. I've been thinking about dumping the DirecTV and consolidating, using Xfinity for general cable TV, shifting my mobile phone off AT&T to Ting or Xfinity Mobile. I got free access to Peacock TV streaming with my Comcast account.
Comcast got really reliable since about 2 years back.
It was averaging 1 outing per month or more.
Nowadays maybe 2-3 outings per year.
No problem with speed or reliability. The call centers seem to have been off-shored. I don't care much for that cause they have a hard time understanding and dealing with the issues. My biggest problem with Comcast is data caps for their internet service. You are capped at 1.2 TB per month. If you go over its like $20 per 50GB to a max of like $200 or something like that. With kids gaming, WFH and video streaming services you can burn through some data fast. They sell an unlimited data package for an extra ~$40 per month. Perhaps I'm a bandwidth hog but not much I can do about it. I pay ~$120 per month for 400 down 12 up bundled with a crappy TV package I don't use. You can login to your Xfinity account and monitor your data usage to avoid getting a surprise bill. See the info here: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/data-usage-usage-history

I'm in Centennial too.....our subdivision is getting Ting Fiber (https://ting.com/internet/town/centennial) installed. I dumped Xfinity for Ting and could not be happier. Now I get a full gig down and up with no data caps and no contract for $89/mo.

Ting sounds amazing but until it's available in my part of the Springs, Xfinity is the best available. Reliable and fast, but not cheap.

Had it in CO and liked it. Have it in WA and like it. Wife and I both use it for work so it needs to be reliable and it is. Very.

Comcast is an evil soul-less greedy corporate master, but they're one of the most solid players in the high speed cable internet game. Unless you can get municipal or some other fiber service, or a better regional is available to you, they're damn good at the internet game, and they're what I'm stuck using.
Except for an 18 month pure hell timeframe dealing with DSL, I've had comcast since forever. I've been WFH since 2003 so probably around then.
Internet only and I do pay a lot for the uncapped 1Gb service as we used up the 2 free months data cap and were headed for an upcharge anyway, but it's been great except for the poor speed during the initial lockdowns in 2020. They did issue a partial credit for a few months.
Right now it works - DSL speeds at my location is about 3x dial up speeds. I upgraded my internet package about 1 year ago, added 30% faster speed and dropped the price by $15 dollars. I could have saved more, but I was looking to move about that time frame so I did not want to lock in a 1 year contract. So if you are running with Xfinity, double check your rate plan, you might be able to get faster service at a lower price.
I checked skylink; but service at my address is not available for 1 - 2 years.
I get one hard 1 - 2 hr outage at least every other month.
I have a modem that I'll give you if you want it. I switched to ting and this thing is just sitting around now doing nothing.

How did you go about checking? I signed up for the beta when it first opened a year or two ago and got an email about a month or so ago that it was available. $500 up front and then $99 a month but we already have gig speed through Xfinity for $70 a month. On top of that we use Xfinity mobile which requires having the internet and it saves us nearly a hundred bucks a month over what we were paying with Verizon. In the end the net doesn't make sense but I can't stand Xfinity so I'd almost be willing to pay more just to get away from them.

If you can't get CenturyLink Fiber, Comcast is you next best/worst option. 6 of 1, half a dozen of the other. It really depends on where you are and what your area build out is. Some have good luck with Comcast, some it an ongoing nightmare (same deal with CL). Starlink /Tesla / Musk is not really an option yet. It is available for very few, coming late 2021 for others and currently a best effort service. I have 2 people on the list and we are waiting to test, both are in rural areas.

#needs a power supply... lol
EarthLink is still $9.99. Sad that AOL is still overpriced at $20s.

I signed up for beta tester and a while back I say an e-mail saying - go to their webiste they were opening up additional areas.
When I signed up; it responded that you have xxxx amount of wait time.
just go to https://www.starlink.com/ and enter your address to see when service might open up.
I was looking for service at two or 3 possible locations and I wanted to see when it opened up.
The tech is neat; sort of looks like a phased array radar system. I could see the hardware as a must have for every RV owner out there. (I am not sure if they would allow mobile use; from pictures I seen on the hardware; it looks like there might be both gps receivers + cell tower access for position fix to point the antenna. )

For the Comcast /Xfinity haters, you do realize that providing broadband/cable is not cheap, and that the employees actually have to get paid? God in a Box costs more than a quarter. If you have a bad experience, TELL COMCAST ABOUT IT. They do actually read the surveys.
If I see someone offering free siding for my house, I'll bite. I lead a software engineering group at Comcast. We are hyper focused on customer experience.

Not really seeing many haters in this thread.

Expensive, but reliable and fairly speedy. Can't watch AVs games with them, so for that reason I am looking for something else.
