View Full Version : Spyderco para 3
So, recently picked up a para 3. Did the ?skinny mod? on the grips today and agree with the general consensus online that this is how it should have come from the factory. It fits my smallish hands very well and is much easier to access the hole on the blade for easy opening. Looks way better too in my personal opinion.

I have a deep carry clip on order from MXG that should be here Monday or Tuesday and then this will likely be my EDC for the foreseeable future.
Well, I had ordered a set of micarta scales just in case I didn?t like the skinny mod or in case I botched the job. Turns out I like the mod enough that I went ahead and reshaped the micarta scales as well.

The micarta looks great. I don?t know what the skinny Mod is but a Para 3 is high on my list.

No actual pictures but the stock grips kind of have a hump in the middle.

While it isn?t uncomfortable as is, removing the hump gives it a cleaner look and I prefer the hand feel.

Well my deep carry clip finally arrived so I?ve been carrying this all week and enjoying it. Thinking about maybe picking up a paramilitary 2 now and changing the scales and some of the hardware.

Great work! I've got a Para 2 and love it, but it is a touch longer of a blade than I need. The 3 looks about perfect for my EDC needs, and the mod looks very interesting. How did you do it? I'm guessing a stationary belt sander would do the trick (with a mask of course, since G10 and micarta are supposed to be pretty bad for the lungs).

While I do have a belt sander and it would likely work pretty well, I opted to take the majority of the material off with my dremel and finish it by hand. I just held my breath so I could skip the respiratory protection. Lol.

I love it. I tried sticking it in my pocket with the factory clip and for lack of a better explanation it just felt like there wasn?t enough of the knife in my pocket and it felt slightly unsecure that way. I don?t mind the knife being exposed out of my pocket but it just felt like it wasn?t as secure as I wanted. The deep carry clip fixed that. I went with the MXG clip only because I saw close up pictures of it and the Lynch clip and it seemed the finish was better on the MXG.

Nice looking clip! I'd love it if they made DLC versions. My Para 2 is blacked out, but the PVD on the clip is worn on the edges.

That?s just called character.
I don?t know what kind of finishes the aftermarket guys are using on their titanium clips. Mine is just powder coated I think. Seems like they have a decent selection of colors though. Blue, purple, red, fde, bronze, etc.

Still digging the para 3 and carrying it every day. The deep carry clip is definitely a mod that I would highly recommend. I honestly don?t recall where I got the micarta scales but with my small hands I have been happy with the ?slim? modification that I did to them.

I carried mine for about a day and a half, and immediately ordered the deep carry clip. I may do the skinny mod on mine, I don't exactly have the largest hands in the world either.
You all suck! I just spent at least an hour looking at scales and how to acid etch and stone wash blades...
I have a paramilitary 2 that is just a little big for EDC. I will have to take a look at the Para 3!
