View Full Version : Rise In Asian Violence
Didn't want to derail the other thread any further. No trying to fan any flames, just curious about this rise and narrative.
I listen to a lot of podcasts. Some political, most not. The political end would be center to center right. I do throw in some scholarly liberal (not progressive) PCs too.
From what I am hearing is most of the violence toward Asians is from young black males. The Georgia massage parlor being the exception but was that racially motivated?
I get this is a volatile issue but the "narrative" seems inconsistent.
Thoughts?

As I wrote in the other thread, I'm curious too. I'm not seeing it but I don't follow the "news". I do listen to a ton of podcasts as well and I can't think of a time it was discussed.
I had noticed last year that a lot of Asians were purchasing firearms last year. Most were new to firearms and we're looking for self defense. Many were there as a family or a female with child. Their fear/concern was very real to them. Many owned small businesses and felt there was a lot of anger directed at them and their businesses. Heard no indication of actual physical violence, but it was clear that they were fearful for themselves, their families and in some cases their businesses.

Omar Mateen in Orlando/Pulse Nightclub;

He follows a lot of violence against Asians and Jews.
The major contributor is an authority on history repeating itself since his family emigrated to the US from Venezuela when he was younger.

Stupid people want a scapegoat. Scapegoat for all their problems and for all their fears. I think we need to buy a lot more mirrors and a lot less internet BS. If we cannot recognize our problems, we will never solve them. And yes, we do have a lot of problems in our country.

Labeling these events as "anti-Asian" is just the Democrats once again not letting any good crisis go to waste. They're hooking it into the anti-Trump/anti-traditionalist diatribes. I'm a freaking Asian-American and Trump was spot-on calling out the government of the PRC for hiding the outbreak of the Wuhan coronavirus. That was NOT anti-Chinese. Calling this pandemic the Wuhan coronovirus is no more anti-Chinese than labeling the epidemic of 1918 "Spanish flu", the earlier respiratory syndromes SARS and MERS, or what came to be called ALS as "Legionnaires disease".
I don't know the details in either situation but my guess is that the shooting in Atlanta would have ended sooner if more people were carrying defensively.
EDIT: Caught up on the KS thread and realized that the police responded FAST.

I noticed that too when I picked up a pistol at Cabela's last March. While waiting for the background check I met a couple Vietnamese ladies and we spent a few hours talking as they chose their second handguns. They already had an AR and AK rifles. Their concerns seemed to be about protecting their shop and workers from robbery and assault.
Admittedly, I live a life somewhat disconnected from multiracial urban areas and I'm not up on the latest greatest nuances of racial theory and dogma but I don't see anti-Asian discrimination as widespread. I think it's promotion is politically based identity politics meant to divide and harm our free society.

You guys are confusing me.
Is this about violence against my Asian friends or committed by them?
Just to be clear, the Asians I referred to in my previous post are East Asians (Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, etc.). I differentiate between the east and the west Asians. Due mainly to the Covid-19 issues. I have my own thoughts on Covid-19 and how it came to be. My belief is that it was manufactured in China and somehow got away from them. Having said that, I certainly do not blame Chinese Americans for it. But as with everything else, some people do take things to extremes.

I feel like OP meant for violent against East Asians, then it got hijacked to include Broad Asians, most non-East Asian Asians I know don?t like to be considered Asians.

.....my guess is that the shooting in Atlanta would have ended sooner if more people were carrying defensively.
I say this to trigger anti-gunners spouting off about more gun laws.
I haven't been following anything specifically, but it seems like there are instances like this going on: https://news.yahoo.com/elderly-asian-woman-fights-back-153513022.html
I couldn't tell you if the random violence against Asians is worse than usual or not, but I have to imagine that with initial reports of people being shitty to Chinese Americans (or other asians misidentified as such) over Covid probably makes stories like these seem like there is a rise. Maybe it's just the focus that has risen.
Before I start saying anything, my next door neighbor is Asian. My 2 house down neighbor is also an Asian. Few house down, we have middle eastern Asian.
My another neighbor is American, but I call him Dutch neighbor, because he talk like Dutch speaking English (US).

Random attacks on Asians have been happening since before covid. Seems like tons of videos of random people getting attacked on the street or subway going back a while now.
I think it's just now getting attention. Which is a damn shame because it should have been getting attention the whole time. It's eff'd up.
But it fits a narrative now so it's finally getting the attention it needs but the blame seems to be centered on the continued effort to destroy Trump forever. It's absolutely racism, but not because Trump made them racist.

And the Atlanta massage parlor guy killed white people and wounded a Hispanic guy too. It had nothing to do with race but the narrative has been set and no amount of coverage will be given to correct that fact.
That situation is not an "Anti-asian" thing like these others seem to be

Agree
I'm glad this got brought up because I saw two posts yesterday on this site talking about the "rise of asian violence". Most of the "violence against asians" is a narrative to further divide us. The latest figures to further the narrative come from a complete hack source. Here's a pretty good write up of it from a FB page that busts memes.
As usual. The demand for racism far exceeds the actual supply.
https://www.facebook.com/memepoliceman/photos/a.1509554889338469/2573566462937301/
This meme commits a common technique when it comes to sensationalizing hate crime stats. It conflates ?hate incidents? reported by advocacy organizations with hate crimes and violence, which are reported by the FBI. Let?s examine these anti-Asian numbers.
▪️The NBC headline gets its statistics from the group Stop AAPI Hate, which was created one year ago today in order to document anti-Asian hate incidents in the wake of Covid. Thus, there is no history of other years to compare their data to, and it?s an advocacy group.
https://www.nbcnews.com/.../there-were-3-800-anti-asian...
▪️There also isn?t any rigorous methodology, as their data comes from online reporting. You can go on their website and fill out a report yourself (don?t get any ideas guys) and could totally make up or embellish an incident. They don?t report or verify incidents with police or third parties, which makes this all but useless as credible data. Media outlets like NBC don?t question this, but there are real issues as I?ll show.
▪️In their FAQ section, Stop AAPI Hate admits that ?The vast majority ? about 90% ? of the incidents that are reported to us are not hate crimes.?
https://stopaapihate.org/faq/
So what are they?
▪️Almost exclusively verbal harassment (68.1%) and ?shunning? (20.5%). Shunning means deliberate avoidance (in the mind of the reporter). This can include online harassment. Physical assault makes up just 11.1% of the incidents. Which, again, are self-reported online and not verified by any third party.
▪️If you?re thinking that some of these incidents might be a bit dubious, just read some of the ones they chose to publish! One wonders what some of the ones they didn?t publish said. Here are some examples:
🔹 ?I came into the coffee shop at Mercato and people started leaving the area where I sat one by one. People started coming in and they sat on the other side of the coffee shop away from me. I became isolated on one side of the coffee shop.? [Keep in mind, this is during Covid and social distancing]
🔹 ?There was graffiti in front of a supermarket that said ?CHINA OFF MY FACE.? It was written quite large for pedestrians to read as they walked by.?
🔹?I received a random email message from someone I don't know telling me to go back to China, blaming me for Chinese politics, calling Chinese "heartless robots" and telling me America doesn't need me to be part of the workforce.?
🔹 ?A man sent me these [online] messages: ?Well, go die in Wuhan, China, the origin of the coronavirus and take Trump with you! B*TCH!??
https://secureservercdn.net/.../210312-Stop-AAPI-Hate...
▪️These are probably not what gets conjured up in most people?s minds from reading this meme. Plus, these stories are unverified and, like all the incidents reported, could be embellished or lack significant context. It simply can?t be taken seriously as an objective measure, yet the media cite it uncritically.
▪️The only credible metric with hate crimes is the FBI hate crime database, which comes from police reports, has a long history for comparison and has an objective definition of a hate crime. Unfortunately, we?ll have to wait until Nov to get the 2020 data, but I?ll break it down like I do every year when that time comes.
▪️In 2019, there were 158 anti-Asian hate crime incidents, which was up from 113 in 2016 (pre-Trump). Certainly a rise, but not unprecedented (there were 150 in 2010 and 281 in 2000). For reference, there were 666 anti-white, 1,930 anti-black, 527 anti-Hispanic and 953 anti-Jewish crimes in 2019.

Why do you have to quantify your neighbors with a race ? That is part of the problem, Us & Them.
Can’t we all see each other as a fellow human beings ?
And before anyone says anything, yes I know Mr. Prena’s heritage.

Everything to advance a narrative.
Like the MSM harping on shark attacks or child abductions in various years. They make it seem like it happens a lot more often than it actually does.
Someone should make yet another law.
To outlaw violence.
Problem solved.

Cmon, take it easy guys. We're all in this together.
I'm of Dutch heritage, both grandfathers came to the USA in the 1800's. Family archives date back to 600 AD. I visited family in Holland recently. Some housed U.S. troops in the Battle of Arnhem.

Not just that, but they also face some angry customer that they were either rushed, or nails not done properly. The owner and employee have to deal with mad (and potential violent) customers every week. :(
However, they are very lucrative part time (and also full time) gig. Standard starter gets paid $100/day+tip. 2 year experience normally gets $150+ and Tips alone going well over $120+ per day.
Yes, I am a state license holder, but never worked a day in that area. :D
It is a long story how I obtain the state license and how I was about to get into the business.

There are some angry ass customer who believe they've been rushed by technicians (employees rushing to complete the nail/pedi) to accept next incoming customers. It is normal during busy hours or weekends.

It's 2021. Random attacks are lumped together as hate crimes whenever possible to advance the agenda. Never mind facts like simple crime in neighborhoods populated predominantly by a particular demographic, it's hate because of course it is. Old lady is attacked by a thug because thugs think old ladies are easy targets. If said lady is a minority, it must be a race-based crime. If she's white, then it's anti-woman. If she has bits that dangle, it's transphobic.

Damn. Another attack, by those white supremist. Like the boulder shooter. The narrative, is not what the media & politicians, want it to be. Sure moronic whites are equally guilty, however . When it's not a white guy, or gal, the media or even cops do not give a description of said attacker

It occurred to me as I was reading another forum that many of the people who were quick to call Trump racist for talking about the "Wuhan coronavirus" or "Chinese coronavirus" or whatever don't seem to have any problem at all talking about the "UK variant" or "Brazil variant". Just an observation.
