Haven't seen anyone else mention this. It's an interesting story. Rapper Lil Nas X (of "Old Town Road" fame) partnered with some company to make "Satan Shoes." Basically, they got 666 pairs of Nikes, dyed it in different colors (including a drop of blood), put satanic imagery on it, and started selling them the other day. It's something about how he was writing a song to his younger self telling himself to come out earlier, something something.

Anyway, unsurprisingly there was a lot of pushback. Now, Nike has filed a lawsuit against him for copyright infringement and brand dilution.

(I was wondering if the drop of blood'd constitute a health hazard/bioterrorism that should be investigated).

Yawn.

I guess I have more things to worry about in my life right now than somebody selling weird shoes, even if I did like Old Town Road. Sometimes fame causes delusions of grandeur.

It does, however, remind me of the Reebok "Incubus" controversy in the 90's- somebody in marketing forgot to look-up the appropriate mythology.

Why not just partner with Slayer. Then he can reign in blood. [Muaha]

It's got controversy and exclusivity, so I am sure these will sell out soon to some 15 year old with lax supervision and Mom's credit card, and a bunch of 25 year olds with stimulus checks. And I hope they do, because I have a few pairs of shoes with my own blood already on them from careless misadventures, that I will gladly write 'Hail Satan' on in Sharpie if they will sell for $1,500 a pop.

I'll stick to my $10 Walmart sneakers, thank you.
If there really was a Satan he would be mortified by this idiocy...

Nike's not happy. They filed a lawsuit against him for these.

I'm sure this dumbass figured he'd get tons of publicity out of this, but he had to know Nike would sue the pants off him too, right?

People see the swoosh on the side. This IS going to damage the brand.

Maybe this is the nail in nikes coffin they need

Who else is old enough to remember the manufactured "scandal" where the rock band KISS published a comic book that purportedly had drops of band members blood mixed in with the ink?

Just goes to show you that "there's nothing new under the sun." Lil Nas X wasn't even a gleam in his daddy's eye when that went down in the 70's or 80's.

How much of the "brand damage" claimed by Nike is perceived damage and just noisy people with no dog in the fight just blathering on the interwebs. I would imagine nearly anyone asked wouldnt immediately associate the whole sillyshow with Nike anyway and recognize it is all reseller stunt.

I feel like if I were Nike, I'd shut the hell up, lest all the sweat shop accusations start fresh again.

I didn't actually know there was such thing as a Nike reseller until this came up. I saw the initial headline, saw a swoosh and thought to myself "self, how could Nike be so crazy to actually make such a thing? This can't possibly be true".

Then I discovered that Nike didn't make them and that people actually customize shoes.

I wear cowboy boots so admittedly I'm out of touch when it comes to shoe fashion...

I don't care the "nike shoes" has a Jesus' blood on it or walked on a water with it. $1000+ for a modded shoes is not a collectable for me, I and would not buy it. :)

I haven't bought "tennis" shoes since my 20s (a long time ago). Never understood the prices for cheap Chinese crap, let alone a resale market.

To each his own.

They sold for over $1k/pair and sold 666 of them immediately. The Nike suit has no merit if he bought the shoes then altered them and sold them as "art." As long as he didn't use Nike's name to promote them. Think Warhol and Campbells soup. While the whole thing is laughably ridiculous. Those covid checks are being spent well!

My daughter actually customizes shoes... I don't get it, either. But she has made some that people requested and the customizing alone she charges $200-400 for depending on the time required.

She also buys worn collectable shoes and restores them- then selling for profit...

Might not be "fashionable", by my preferred sneaker is still the Reebok Royal BB4500 HiTop.

It's plain white with a much less obtrusive logo and the hitop gives my ankles the extra support I need...and I can usually find them for anywhere from $35-$45/pr (when I wear out the ones I have - still have 2 brand new pair in the basement).

The district court issued a temp restraining order against the company that is making these and has blocked all further sales. They were ordered not to ship anymore.

Interesting how fast certain groups can get responsive judicial action.
