Starbuck
04-11-2021, 07:10
Match Description:

This match is designed to be fast-paced, fun, safe, and to challenge the competitor's practical field shooting skills, such as wind reading, rapid target acquisition, magazine and DOPE changes during shot strings, and optionally, shooting from various positions off a tripod.
There are five arrays of steel targets at 84, 164, 218, 328, and 421 yards. Target sizes are 2-5 MOA. Five targets at each distance except for just two at 421y. All targets at 328 and 421y have Magnetospeed flashers.
Course of fire is six 22 shot strings, for a match total of 132 shots.
One shot per target. One point per hit, zero points per miss. Perfect score is 150 points.
You may shoot Prone, Bench, or from a Tripod, since this is not a PRS/NRL style match

Equipment Requirements:

Bolt action repeater or semi-auto rifle - in .22LR only - with detachable box magazines.
Magnified optics with uncapped target turrets. Max magnification >10x.
Scope reticle with hash marks for elevation and wind holds.
Enough available scope elevation travel and/or holdover values to reach 385m/421y – this is about 22 MILS or 76 MOA in most rifles.
132 rounds ammo, plus what you want to check your zero and DOPE prior to match start.
Enough magazines to shoot a 22 shot string, e.g., 5x5, 3x10, or some combination thereof. You will not have enough time to refill mags during your string.
Your elevation drop values and wind holds (aka DOPE) for the aforementioned ranges, written down and handy.
Bipod, rear bag, and/or other positional support bags, based on personal preference.
Tripod, only if you choose to shoot in the Tripod Division.

Crap. Same day is my PRS match in Pueblo.

3rd Sunday was not my 1st choice, but the ONLY available day at the CRC Silhouette Range. It is a busy range with matches every weekend day during the season. I am told however that there is some movement in the scheduling from season to season, so maybe we can get a different date in 2022.

Hope you can break away to join us! Thought you had an Ass't MD for your 600y match. If not maybe now's the time[Wink][Wink]

Magnified optics with uncapped target turrets. Max magnification >12x.

For clarification, a scope with MORE than 12x magnification? I assume higher mag for long range.

Yes. 12x or more max magnification. Available max magnification up to 20x is ideal, but not necessary. I will allow 10x, but anything less and the competitor will will feel no joy.

400+ yards with a 22lr? I thought those thing turn into mist past 250? [ROFL1] All seriousness how big are those targets going to be?

What would the dope be for a 421 or 547 yard target, roughly. From a 50 yard zero? Or would a 100 yard zero (84 or 164 yard specific to this match maybe) work better.

Like a 30 MOA rail, at a common height over bore, some zero distance, and a scope with what kind of travel then plus the tree reticle? Thinking a VIPER? PST™ GEN II 5-25X50 FFP EBR-7C (MRAD) Reticle.

About 22 and 33 MILS for 385 and 500m, respectively, from a 50y zero. For most setups, dialing most of your elevation and then holding over the balance will be the solution.

Get a canted rail that has 50% of your scope's available elevation adjustment, usually 30-40 MOA for a scope with 26MILS of adjustment. A Christmas tree reticle is ideal for holdovers, but not necessary.

385m targets will be a 16" diamond, 16" circle, 14" diamond, 16" triangle, and a 66% IPSC (12x20).

Optional, not for score 500m target will be an 18" square.

Targets will get proportionately smaller at the closer ranges...

I have not shoot Sam's match yet but Rimfire PRS matches are a lot of fun..

To be clear, this is not a PRS-style match. Competitors may choose to shoot prone, bench, or in a Division that will combine both prone and tripod shooting. No contrived positions, barricades, and no offhand shooting.

Sorry I did not mean to confuse the COF. Of course each shooter is responsible for reading the program to understand the COF before signing up.

Happy 2022!

For season two, this match will now be on the 3rd Saturday, March - October. Only exception is in April, when we will shoot on the fifth Saturday.

Also the Divisions have been simplified: Prone, Bench, or Tripod. If you shoot in the Tripod division you will shoot all six strings off a tripod, from any position except prone, and you can vary the positions from string to string if you want, i.e. sitting, standing , kneeling, but not prone.

First 2022 match is March 19. Registration open March 1. Link in Post #1.

Great fun with a great group of shooters. Learned a lot, had a lot of fun. The wind was,,, trying…. Up to 4 MILs at one point and the rear to left movement really had me dancing around.

The oddest thing was spotting hits. Some serious Time of flight on the long shots. Shot…….mi….IMAPCT!

Can’t make it next month due to family stuff, looking forward to when I can make it.

Thank you Starbuck!

Yep it was windy yesterday. This is second or third time that the wind has masked the sound of impacts on our 300m targets. They are 3/16" AR550 and ring nicely on a relatively calm day. But not yesterday...
I hope to have flashers on these targets for the July match. All it takes is money!

Recently scored ten new flashers for our 300m targets. These will be in place for our next match on July 16.

Three more matches this year - September 17, October 15, and November 5. Registration link in Post #1.

On November 5, the match will move from the third Saturday to the first Saturday, in an effort to accomodate a number of shooters who have had conflicts with other RF matches on the third Saturday. After November 5, we will resume the matches on April 1, 2023.
