I have an A4-style AR-15 with a rear BUIS that I'd like to put a red dot on. (I already have a variable scope on a QD mount for it for longer range shots.) I'd like to have something that could pull duty for home/camp defense use if needed. I'm drawn to something that is rock solid reliable and has a good warranty (which should never be needed...). Right now, I'm looking at the Romeo5 and 5X, and the 2nd gen Vortex Crossfire as lightweight options at a reasonable price. Any thoughts on these? If any of you have a rifle that you have for similar situations, what would you choose? (Obviously, feel free to pick whatever electro optic you want.) Thanks!

I use the Romeo5’s because of the price point. They (pre corona) go on sale pretty reasonably. I like them, but my rifles don’t see a lot of abuse so I can’t comment on their durability.

Another vote for the Aimpoint PRO. It?s pretty much the entry level for anything that I would consider a serious optic.

You probably wouldn?t have a problem with something like the Sig but if the Zombies do indeed come someday I?d rather count on the Aimpoint.

Quick question: I know that there are fake Aimpoints out there. Do they come with boxes and papers? Any easy tells to know what’s a fake when buying used off Craigslist, etc?

Quick question: I know that there are fake Aimpoints out there. Do they come with boxes and papers? Any easy tells to know what’s a fake when buying used off Craigslist, etc?I would avoid CL/armslist; to many scammers and dummies. Buy here and be safe. If there is a knock-off Aimpoint here, it will be in the stated title. If the deal is too good to be true, it is. Genuine optics don't depreciate in price much (if any). Get either of the ones listed above and if you don't like it, sell it to the next guy "on here" for the same as you paid for it.
