Neighbor and good friend of mine killed in a work related accident about 6 months ago. This was the first Memorial Day with his headstone in place at Ft Logan. Retired Army but also some Marine Service so many of those affected by his life paid their respects both yesterday and today by volunteering to place flags for Memorial Day.

I understand. My Grandfather is buried there (with my Grandma). He earned the honor of a Veteran's burial as a machine Gunner in France during WWI, but didn't occupy a plot until after turning 91 in 1986. Their grave doesn't reflect sadness anymore, just respect.

There is no shame in shedding a tear, no change in your masculinity for showing emotion for fallen servicemen or police officers.

Amen to that.
I was in Virginia last week and so wanted to go to Arlington National Cemetary while I was there but there just wasn't enough time in my whirlwind schedule. My grandfather is buried at Arlington.
If we ever wind up moving away from Colorado, leaving my grandfather and grandmother-in-law who are buried in Fort Logan, and the tradition of visiting them every July 4th and taking a family photo with our kids there to see the changes in them year by year, will likely be the most emotional part. I can only imagine the tears, heck they’re practically welling up already just imagining…
God bless all our servicemen and women, past, present and future.
