Short version, two kids run away from a group home, break into a house, steal an AK-47, a shotgun, and a handgun, start shooting at responding deputies, who are forced to shoot and critically wound the girl (the 14yo) despite lots of attempted deescalation.

That's an unfortunate situation. We've all done stupid stuff as kids (I've never shot at anyone, ever) and survived. I'm wondering if this hysteria in the media exacerbated the problem.
