View Full Version : Ramshot TAC; That's some good stuff

Been tinkering around with some AR loads lately, and damned if Ramshot TAC isn't some good stuff. 25gr with a MG 55gr FMJ shot out of my varmit gun in a .84" group at 100 yds. Same powder charge with a 69gr SMK shot a 1.118" group at 200 yds with the same gun. My Colt HBAR only has a 1-4x scope on it but I still managed a 2.5" group out of it at 100 yds with the same 55gr load. Just as good at that range with any factory ammo I've found.
I haven't even gotten my hands on some Varget to try out, and I'm not sure I'm going to try very hard to either. If this stuff works with the Hornady heavy bullets as well, I'll be totally satisfied. It meters just as good as any powder I've reloaded with and I can load rounds with it in a progressive press and not sweat the powder drop. Just good stuff.

I just picked up some TAC along with some Varget and BLC-2 to play with for some load development in a couple of my 223's and my 6.5 as well.
I'll be interested to see if I can get similar results. I prefer to be able to use one or two powders, and not have to have 15 loads with 15 different powders.
I have had the best results with heavy bullets (69-77) with TAC. Even better in a 223 AI.
And it meters like water in my Dillon powder measures.

I've been satisfied with TAC. I ended up with 16 pounds of it, tried it and liked it enough to get some True Blue for 9mm loads. I've only loaded .223 55gr FMJ so far. I haven't done any shooting for publishable data but I did get silver dollar size groups at 100 yards. If the shooter was better, I'm sure the groups would have been.
I recently picked up a couple pounds and am starting load development but had a question. I am loading 55gr Sierra Semi point and the data from Ramshot has the start load at 23.4 and max at 26 with a 2.240 col. Keep in mind their data is based off a 24" barrel w/ 1-12 twist. Now the Sierra data for an AR-15 has the start load at 24.7 and max at 26.3. Which data do you go with? Right now I am leaning toward the Sierra because it's geared toward the AR but wanted to see what others thought.
Thanks

Too funny! I was about to post a question on if TAC was any good. And saw this. I just bought 8 lbs for $19.95 from my place of employment. Some guy walked in off the street with a pile of reloading supplies he bought at some estate sale and then sold to my boss. My boss doesn't have much of a clue when it comes to reloading stuff so he sold it to me for that price. I guess I'll be happy with it.

GunTroll, you buy a lottery ticket lately? I think it's about time; don't you?
Great deal you got in there. After getting great reports on the TAC from SAFriday, I decided that's what I'll be using for my .223 loads that I'm slowly getting towards putting together now. THat didn't stop me from doing a bit more research. I didn't find as much as I had for Varget, but it's all good.

We have been using TAC in all our 223 Rem Prairie Dog loads for the last couple of years. I think we are on our sixth or seventh eight pounder. Works great from 40 grain bullets on up and also in the 223AI. When we were first considering using TAC I talked to one of the techs at Ramshot and asked him if we shuld use TAC or Exterminator with the lighter bullets. His reply was go with TAC. We did and have never looked back. Also is super clean in the AR's.

OK, so now I need to know where to find some, anyone have any front range options?

Do give it a try. I have a plain-Jane DPMS with a 16" Lite 1/9 twist barrel and I am getting just around 1" groups at 100 with this stuff. I too found it at Dad's Wholesale and yesterday I was up at Cabelas in Sidney and they had a boat load of it too.
Yep, good stuff. I finally used up my last $40/8# keg of AA2200. Tried 2230, Varget, and TAC and prefer the TAC so far. But I have not shot these loads in temperatures above 35 degrees yet. Anyone who has used it longer know about its temperature sensitivity?
Also have X-Term for the .22-250 and Hunter for the bigger rounds, neither of which I have tried yet.
