State park annual pass will soon be no more than half the current price for CO residents. Guess the pros are that parks will be cheaper, but they will likely continue to increase the fees we pay to hunt to offset. Though I can see more people buying passes as they will offer as an option during renewal.

Betcha fishing licenses will go up in price too [Mad]
Not sure. I always heard the argument that the wildlife side is paying for the parks side and I always believed it.. but if you look at how the two depts were set up after the merger they still carry their own independant budgets and their own generated income goes to their own accounts. The only thing they share is some back end office stuff such as the combined web site and other things not related to their core missions. You can look up their individual budget reports online and see where the money comes and goes.

Interesting, I?ll have to look into that. Guess seeing everyone walking their dogs and such thru the SWA/STLs I just get cranky about it all.
On the bright side my parks pass will be cheaper in another year :)

Looks to still be a proposal. I would happily buy a 1/2 parks pass today. No 100% sure, but I think it will be added to your vehicle registration unless you "opt-out" manually.
Looks to include SAR services, which is good. Currently it's the COSAR program which is cheap and a great idea.

The law was passed, but they are still working out the details of how to do it.

The passes are being reduced by 50% but it is being added on to car registration and you are automatically opted in, you have to opt out if you don't want it.

I don't think it goes into effect until 2023.

I wonder if this will be the case for DV (Disabled Veteran) plates as those plates already get us into all state parks/lands at no cost. I paid an extra $50 one time fee (each) to get all of my plates DV plates just so I'd be able to go into state parks without the fee.
