View Full Version : Jets scrambling out of Buckley Air Force Base

I live just south (in a relative sense, to Jets) of Buckley Air Force Base and when they take off, they will frequently rattle my home and set off car alarms.

Just heard a few scramble now, on a rainy Friday evening. Could just be an exercise or could be something else?

Normally I hear them Weekends (when I am home) in the morning.

As a military base, I guess there will be very little shared with the public, but I do sometimes wonder if it is something other than a training mission, etc.

Just trying to see if there is any rhyme or reason to this, or (more likely) not.

When I see the first rocket take off...

LOL, I do think I know why it is called a space port now. (those big balls.)

When I HEAR the first rocket take off, their public relations department is going to receive a phone call.

There's also a space port up North of I-70?

They are flying in and out of there all the time. Probably just going somewhere for the weekend.

That's a commercial venture to attract attention for the little airport off of 70.

They have been flying around south end of Fort Carson for days now. I guess it is ground support exercises for the Army and to train TACP's. I heard them today and ran outside but saw nothing.
Typical day above my house...

I almost never see them, just hear them.

My theory is they hang a left, away from Denver, so the noise is not too much. Never mind that when they hang a left, I am directly behind them.

We see them pretty regularly where I am in centennial.

They have been doing some serious surveillance. April 30th for example. I figure this was for the Academy Graduation ceremony. Once all the planned Space Force infrastructure is in place, I can imagine the power they will acquire.

The chair is against the wall……

Went to a gun store in Weld County a few months ago. Everyone in CO was wearing masks so I walk in with my mask on, not trying to cause a problem and as soon as I walk in I see everyone with no masks on. I take my mask off and asked, "Is this a freedom zone?" The guy behind the counter responded, "Welcome to Free America." I laughed and immediately said, "The chair is against the wall indeed" and he said, John has a long mustache."

The day after I posted the Apache gunship armada flight video over the house, two gunships buzzed the house super low. I wish I had my camera for that pass. Nobody would believe me if I told them the neighborhood is patrolled by helicopter gunships. I think it is just some of the pilots live in this neck of the woods. These birds do not appear on the internet. Link below to see what is flying...usually armed combat craft do not appear on here.

I lived one block east of the back gate for what was then Buckley Air National Guard base, a short drive from the aircraft viewing area. I liked watching the F-16?s play around over us.
Once it became Air Force we started to see a much more transient population in the area. The neighborhood started to go down hill with more crime and just not as clean. We moved north.
Still. I really did like watching the jets flying over.

Just a bit of air traffic - quick snapshot on traffic this AM.

I don't know why the amount surprises me, but it does.

I remember driving by Buckley a few times when CompUSA use to be out that way.

You live in Pueblo? My thought would be they're flying from Carson to the Pinion Canyon training area East of Walsenburg.

When I was stationed at Fort Bragg the barracks I lived in was directly under the flight path from the airfield to the training areas so it wasn't uncommon to have an entire squadron of Apaches flying over at probably 500' AGL. After a while it just blended in with the background noise and honestly, it was a lot less intrusive than when the artillery units were doing their night firing training.

I lived on the flight path of the old McChord AFB when they had C-141s stationed there. You just got used to not talking for a minute until the noise was gone.

It is totally because one of your neighbors is an alien. They are just keeping tabs on him.

Keep in mind this is only the aircraft you can hear. There are some overhead right now.

I live 23 miles from where the helicopters are based. No way am I on the flight path. Maybe I can find a bargain priced house in the Florida Keys?

The real place for a bargain is the US Virgin Islands. One of my coworkers who has been working remotely 100% for the last 4 years, moved there before Covid and seems to love it.

Something like this house below. It is in the the direct flight path of Key West Naval Air Station. I am just short a quarter million dollars. I don't really mind the aircraft, besides I'll be in the boat most of the time.

Wonder if that had something to do with the pair of F16s that did a bunch of loops over Boulder yesterday..

I thought the best part of Broncos home games were the planes circulating and grouping up over our home in Highlands Ranch prior to the pre-game flyover.

Buckley is home to an ANG wing, they do a lot of touch and goes on the weekends to keep their flight status current. When the wind is out of the south, their approach is basically directly over my house. Low enough that I can see the rivets on the fuselages. Pretty cool to watch.
