Fire is essential to forest health and management. Since we've been putting out fires for 100+ years we've disrupted the natural cycle of the ecosystem.

It might be better to just light the entire national forest and let nature take it's course. Firefighters lives aren't worth the cost of altering a natural cycle.

20 years ago in aerial firefighting and wildland firefighting the mantra was "Fire Bad."

Now that the Forest Service and NIFC are smarter, fires aren't usually aggressively fought unless structures are threatened. Take a look how many fires burn each year in Alaska.
