Elitch Gardens Theme Park (https://www.elitchgardens.com/)abruptly changed its policy this week so that all children under the age of 16 must have an adult chaperone with them, the result of "unruly teenagers" at the park this summer, according to the amusement park.

They may be OK with this since bad parenting is not race specific. I also remember being a teenager, and when in a group of other teens, we seemed to have an energy amplified by the group which led to doing stupid stuff.

Just like the "Only 2 students allowed at a time" signs on gas station near the high school, this is the sort of shit that pissed me off as a teen and still pisses me off.

Mass discrimination is perfectly acceptable when applied to certain groups.

Why not just have policy of kicking-out people being asshats, regardless of age?

How exactly do go about kicking out a group of nine thirteen year old girls?

These are all private businesses. I wouldn't have let a young teenager (stranger) hang out alone at my business at all without compelling reason. Coupled with liabilities and regulations, why do we feel business rights to set their own policies < free babysitting?

Maybe I lack perspective here, but I don't understand why people are offended here. Lol. Free market and all...

Our kid just went from 13 to 16, problem solved.

Why is a group of 14 year old boys who are being respectful PAYING customers assumed to be problematic or recipients of babysitting?

Individual conduct matters, not patronizing generalities.

This is coming from the perspective of a former teen who didn't act like a jackass, and a current parent of a 15 year old male who doesn't act like a jackass.

I think as kids we all learned the few ruin it for the many. Which is why self-policing in many groups is well developed. While true judgment on an individual basis is an ideal I also (mostly) agree with, it is not really a part of any institution of our country nor is it all that possible with human nature.

I also patronize generalities and I assume you do to. If I see someone that looks homeless, I assume they are homeless. If I see a guy fully tattooed with teardrops and MS-13, I'm not telling myself "I should give everyone an equal chance he could be a fully reformed gang member". I am absolutely judging him on his appearance. Some in our society deny doing that, but it's hard coded into our genes to make assumptions of other people. Certain special snowflakes try to overcompensate, and make even more generalities and assumptions than the status quo.

I will concede, this isn't a fair comparison here, but case in point, if even 1 out of 10 teenagers are a pain in the ass requiring a extra level of resources, it can make it where it isn't profitable at all between the ages of 13-15. Sucks for the 9 out of 10 that are good kids, but from a business standpoint, that doesn't make it a bad decision.

Even one set of unruly teenagers in a group requiring LEO assistance and playing up the gen Z victim cards would be enough for me to not want a single one in the park of any kind at all, the experience is that negative. It would take a surprising proportion of good kids to balance that out.

Not saying it doesn't suck, and of course I am detached since it doesn't affect me. I just lean towards laissez-faire, instead of a lassie's fair here.

kids in packs are troublesome. There are high schools and junior colleges on some subway lines in NYC. When the kids come back in the fall without social skills, every afternoon is a nightmare on the platforms for a couple of months. Every subway car is like the last bird out of Hanoi.
