Colorado becomes latest state to pass data privacy law (https://www.zdnet.com/article/colorado-becomes-latest-state-to-pass-data-privacy-law/)

Colorado has joined California (https://www.zdnet.com/article/california-consumer-privacy-act-everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-ccpa/) and Virginia (https://www.techrepublic.com/article/after-virginia-passes-new-privacy-law-states-race-to-catch-up-to-ccpa-and-gdpr/) in passing a comprehensive data privacy law that forces companies to make wholesale changes to how they handle people's sensitive information online.

The Colorado Privacy Act (https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/sb21-190), which was signed into law on July 7 by Governor Jared Polis, gives consumers the right to ask companies not to sell their personal information while also giving them access to any data companies have about them. Consumers can also ask companies to delete their data, and the law forces enterprises to ask for consent to hold certain sensitive information like Social Security Numbers, drivers license numbers and more.

While some states have passed narrower laws focused on specific data collection and sale practices, Colorado is considered among experts to be the third state after California and Virginia to pass a commercial privacy law.

Will this mean more companies don't ship here?

It's gonna be similar to GDPR AND CCPA. It a good thing, not sure how much teeth are in in the legislation, or what companies will respect it. I have used the CCPA and GDPR to have data removed.

Maybe the state should start with its own data.

I am not knowledgeable enough if this is good or bad thing, especially secondary implications. Really, anything that gets the triple D approval raises my suspicions.

Does that mean the DMV will stop selling information and we can all stop receiving car warranty calls?

Lol. You signed up for the confirmed number list? I saw that one coming miles away. A business can get a list of numbers to not call. But in reality it is a list of legitimate numbers with people answering them. Vs random calling to fax machines, answering services, data ports ect...

Off-shore spam-dialers dial every possible number combination. EVERYONE is on a "list". That includes "unlisted" numbers.

How come when the IRS calls me to tell they are going to arrest me, they need my name and social number?

Shouldn’t the IRS already have that when they call especially if they are going to arrest me?
