I haven't been gaming much lately, but still do some weekly races in iRacing. Anyone else a sim racing fan? Here is a quick pic of my rig after I added the handbrake. I play in VR 99% of the time, but it's nice to have triples for friends that can't handle VR and sims that don't support it.

That's a really nice setup. Is that 'off the shelf' or did you put that together?

I do a bunch of races in Iracing.. I've been driving the Spec Racer Ford series for a couple years now, as well as the USF2000 series. I don't do much of the oval racing, except for the carburetor cup unofficial series.

I'm using triples with a cheapo logitech wheel/pedals.

Awesome to know there are others! I've raced all the disciples at one point or another. I tried out the new spec racer and that is a ton of fun. I'm really hooked on the forumla vee this season. I did well in the skippy two seasons back, so it seems open wheelers on the road courses are my sweet spot.

Thanks! It's a pretty custom setup. Here is a list of the main components:

- Trak Racer 8020 chassis
- Corbeau FX1 Pro Seat
- Simucube 2 Pro wheel base
- Cube controls GT Zero wheel
- Heusinkveld Ultimate Pedals
- Heusinkveld handbrake
- Fanatec SQ1.5 shifter
- Aura transducer setup
- PC with 5950x CPU and RTX 3090 GPU

Motion is my next step :)

Happy to answer any questions.

That is a pretty sweet set up Sakserv.

I used to have a meager set up for Papyrus Nascar 20 years ago and I miss it....been wanting to get back into it but I'm lacking in knowledge or where to get it from. I've seen some Iracing info which looks cool, and looked into Nascar 21 Ignition, but the reviews on that game are awful. I was happy with the papyrus stuff which I still have in storage but the only system I have is a 5 yr. old Asus laptop with no HD, but I think it can route a PS or Xbox through it. Not sure if or how to proceed at this point.

I can appreciate playing GW I with my wife from time to time, but I'd rather race or shoot stuff when I game... ;)

Last time I raced was the Indianapolis 500 on my Amiga. What I loved about the game is that even if I got a little bit faster, lap by lap, I still had to make 200 laps. Never won/finished that game, obviously.

I can't imagine what the simulations are like today, must be very cool. :)

I've heard that the EA stuff was good up until about '09.

Electronic Arts (EA) made/marketed very good games early in personal computer world.

The Wiki page doesn't have games categorized by year (but they probably will in the long run, since Electronic Arts is one of the very first big game companies), but some of my favorites include Marble Madness (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marble_Madness), and Seven Cities of Gold (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Seven_Cities_of_Gold_(video_game)).

They're one of the oldest big game companies still surviving (and thriving?)

Back in the day, if it was an Electronic Arts game, it was quality.

Well.. I found out that IRacing was started by a cofounder of the Papyrus folks and he took most of the graphic designers with him when he left to start IRacing. I've been doing a lot of research with my wife about the service and options/costs, and have decided I'm getting onboard with it. I'll have to get an external RAM drive for my laptop and have ordered a raceSim setup from Extreme with all the crap I need to go with it.

Focusing on one series will help keep costs lower and I will follow the progression of licensing over time and advance up the scale ladder with patience. The game is heavily weighted on safe driving without devious/careless contact with other competitors or hitting the walls/getting off track/causing damage to your car. The game gives you kickbacks for regular participation to help buy new tracks or cars, and if you progress far enough to reach "pro" level, you can participate in the Coca Cola Series which actually pays checks in thousands of dollars if you can dominate. Many accomplished members in the league have received amounts anywhere from 10K up to the top near 130K. WTF?

Either way, some money in for some entertainment/hobby out of it...and hell if I get good at this system I might make some dough later on. All my gear should show up by mid Feb, assemble, gain function, and then start the membership and begin my journey.

Well shucks,....the wheel/pedals showed up today and the box was compromised. Sure as shit the wheel console was busted and amazon is dropping the ball getting it replaced so I ordered another one and sort out the busted one after the fact. Everything should be here by the end of this month. The shifter is the straggler coming from the UK.

When I get this all put together it will look very much like Sakserv's rig without three monitors.........yet. I realize the immersion effect but I'm not sure it's necessary for me right now.

Okay, it seems nobody is gaming or posting in this section at all anymore....but I do have some news that makes me happy so I'm going for it.

I got the final piece for my rig today (monitor) and got everything hooked up, drivers downloaded for all the accessories, etc with my wifes help. Entered testing for the rookie class street stock asphalt ovals at Lanier and within an hour and a half I'm a half second off the track record in this class at that track set in '17. There's more tweaking I can do tomorrow to see if I can get closer and this is fun.
