I have had a hand full of 357mag revolvers over the years. I always thought that 357 was a pussy round and sold them off because I was looking for more bang/power. Approx 6 months back I got a itch to get a new handgun since I've been reloading and ended up with a 7in 686+. Now that I reload 357 is a whole nother animal, full tilt h110, 2400 loads are something very special that everyone should experience. A 125gr xtp over 22gr of h110 has left everyone that has shot it with a smile from ear to ear, the best reaction was my 16 year old son. I have had 44mag revolvers and shot lots of big handguns over the years but none compare to the fun and satisfying feeling 357 leaves you with. Every new 357 load I work up continues to impress. That is all hope everyone has a good day!!!

If you haven?t tried the 357 out of a carbine you should. Surprising what a longer barrel and no cylinder gap can do for velocity. Plus, just like the revolvers you can do everything from popcorn fart 38?s to full blown hotrod rounds.

The .357 is very impressive out of my 94. Get yourself a lever gun.

I bought my first 357 a couple years ago. I wondered why I waited so long. I have shot a couple carbines and really like those too. Between revolvers with four inch barrels and carbines with 20 inch barrels, loading gates, and almost ten round capacity, there is lots of versatility.

I became the owner of a .357 on my 21st B-day. Went to DL office, hit the LGS that had a used Service-Six on-hold for me @ $180, then went to my favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner and a legal margarita. It was a good day!

My .357 herd has expanded a bit since then...

Yup, .357s rock. I have my late father's no dash 686 he bought new in 1981, Sept. 7 to be exact. I want to get a lever gun in .357 to match it. This will eventually go to my older son, he has kids so hoping it'll stay in the family for a loooong time.

With al the original goodies, even his receipt.

I have a 686 I bought in the '80s as a sidearm for a security job. First gun I ever bought for myself. I don't plan to ever sell it.

357 is no whimp. I remember being at a range with a guy next to me shooting a 44 Mag. I thought the 357 had the louder shockwave. Could have been the Winchester Silvertips I was shooting at the time. I will never forget the smell of ammonia in the air when I shot those.

Or the rattling of the shields between the lanes of the range.

Or the flames shooting out to the sides and out the muzzle.[Coffee]

I really do want to find a lever gun to go with it at some point...and probably another revolver or 3.

We filled about a dozen gallon milk jugs with water and shot them with various handguns once. The 357 with hollow points totally obliterated the jug. The explosion of plastic and water was impressive. More so than anything we shot with a 9mm, 40, or 45. Fun times.

I?ve got a Marlin CBSL in .357 and a Ruger bolt action. When Walmart was selling ammo my favorite was the 100 round packs of Remington 125 JHPs. Out of the Ruger they were going a little over 2100 FPS and would shoot into less than 1 1/2 inches at 100 yards. Is a great caliber, just picked up a new Colt Python today at Cabelas, and it was at MSRP, not the $2000 they are going for on Gunbroker. I was surprised to find it in the case and couldn?t resist.

I was very close to buying a “match champion “ Gp100 a few years ago but never did.
I have a .357 Blackhawk , and can’t remember the last time I shot it. I grew up with blackhawks and marlin levers with hot hand loads. My buddy had a 8in Colt King Cobra that was amazing to shoot.

What is your opinion of the quality of the new ones vs the original?

I’ll let you know once I get it to the range. I had a beautiful 4 inch original Python but they have become so collectible I couldn’t bring myself to shoot it much and sold it. I’m hoping this will be a good shooter that I won’t mind shooting a bunch. Fit and finish appear very good, but not as polished as the original stainless Pythons.

What are you trying to do? Send beast556 to the poor house?

Its amazing how many rounds you go through on a day at the range with a lever gun.

I really want a lever action 357 but I want to get a 4in gp100 first. You never know if I see a good deal on a lever gun it might come home first. My wife has a old colt python that her dad gave to her, it doesn't get shot often and I would never run full tilt loads through it. Any one know a local gunsmith that is competent to do a trigger/action job on a s&w wheel gun?

Longrange that python looks super nice, definitely let us know how it shoots.

The very first gun I bought was a Smith and Wesson 686. Still have it and will never part with it.

Shot IPSC with it for several years when I first started. It's such a nice gun, I'm a closet revolver shooter. Enjoy them much more than semiautos, but I shoot semiautos far more.

I had the 5" that I had polished and tuned. That's the gun I regret selling the most.

I have a 6" GP100 and a 16" Marlin.

I really want a 4" now, just to round out the stable. Thinking about a Korth Mongoose.

And a stainless Vaquero in 4 3/4.

I have 50 freshly loaded Hornady 158gr XTP's sitting on 15 grains of H110. Should be good for around 1400 fps out of the Ruger.

Got the Python to the range for the first time and what a shooter. Double action pull is great, but single action needs some work. Supposedly they had to make it heavy to pass required drop tests while cocked. Can?t wait to see what I can do with it once the action tune is done. It shot everything very well, from 125 grain .38 Special to 185 grain hard cast gas checked thumpers. I?ve owned a few dozen .357s over the years and this one is the most accurate I have shot. These were shot offhand at 10 yards.
