Independence Day. The neighbor idiot ripping past on a Yamaha XT 225 without a muffler. F-16's out of Buckley.
I have been thinking about sound a lot lately.
The loudest noise I ever heard was a 225/75-15 spare tire on my '66 CJ-5 that decided to let go about six inches from my ear. Couldn't hear out of that side for days.
My Dad's loudest noise was when he and his buddies found a case of dynamite and blew up a bridge with some of it. He permanently lost hearing during that escapade. (It was in rural Texas in the early 50's. I'm sure the statute of limitations has expired on that one).
So...
What's your loudest gun?
What's your loudest noise?
Why does everyone around me MAKE SO MUCH NOISE!

Try Cape Canaveral. Shuttle landing, multiple shock waves. Loudest noise ever. Louder than a F-111 at full after burner.
Dude under my apartment window has a sweet Mustang, great sound. The problem is he uses the sound in the parking lot, underneath windows of people that are trying to conduct their lives. Idle speed is warranted when you are in your own community.
Never mind the noise pollution of the rice burners, etc. out there with the fat pipes.
I've looked up Aurora Code re: Noise Pollution, and there doesn't seem to be much there. :(

My 3 year old son. The kid does NOT have an inside voice.
Detroit Diesel engines were pretty impressive. Maybe not as instantly loud as some things, but consistent.

I'm at an age now that noise is a constant bother. I live in a neighborhood where it seems like loud car stereos and mufflers are required.

Hey! My two year old grandson operates at the same volume. Full Gusto...

The incredibly loud, sudden, abrupt and screaming “Whooosh” from a full 330 cubic foot oxygen tank that got knocked over and the valve broken off in high school metal shop. I was on the other side of the shop, a dipshit tried moving it without the cap on it.
Blew through a cinder block wall, across a lawn and into the door of a teachers car.
I don’t know what was more deafening, that or the silence afterwards.

Winner!
Got a new M1 Carbine years ago (aftermarket) and was on about the 15th round of factory ammo when it had an out of battery detonation. Blew the stock in half, blew the magazine out through the floorplate (body still installed), and my dumbass wasn't wearing hearing protection because it was a "quick test" of a new gun.
I felt pressure in my ears and an angelic choir for a full two weeks. Lesson learned.

B1-B on the flight line doing engine tests. Holy hell that hurt for days even with earplugs and me being about 1/2 mile away, but behind it.

Loud? The look of death when my wife sees my newest gun purchase……and she doesn’t say a word.
Cher & Village people concert at the world arena. Too painful to enjoy. Never went back to the arena fir any reason.
The two loudest sounds in the world are the BANG that shoulda went *click*, and the *click* that shoulda went BANG.
50lbs of tannerite gets attention.
I set off an oxy acetelyne balloon once without ear pro, that was the last time too.
In my youth I attended a few concerts, got front row center.
LOUD enough LONG enough it was actually painful.

The voices in my head
I need to go back to Top Fuel Dragsters.
Anything that rattles your eyeballs and shakes the atmosphere for a several seconds is pretty loud.
A woman scorned.
And then what Flogger said. Went on a blind date to a drag race once. Bad idea. Neither one of us heard anything the other said at the race. Ended well though. Nobody could remember anyone managing to bring their date to spend their 21st birthday night in the barracks at CGAS San Francisco before. (Not like it sounds, they were two man rooms. Except that night. Only one man in the room that night.)

Standing next to the end of the runway when the Concorde took off at KOSH. F22 500 ft flyover at KOSH.
....................lightening strike maybe 20 ft away from me.
I had a buzz in my ears for days, at the time it felt like I was hit but 2x4 across the chest, the concussion was tremendous. Worse than being in an indoor range against the wall with a 16" 5.56 with a VG6 gamma muzzles device. [Coffee]

Not the actual volume, but the overall feel. Calling fire from an F4 Phantom (showing my age) who opted to fly supersonic over my OP instead of the expected approach. I might have pooped a little.
My non-veteran neighbors would put my Harley on their list.

A fart on a wooden pew…
In a quiet church, preferably during a wedding.
Lightning striking a transformer next to the house. Sounded like a bomb going off.
Lived next to Wright Patterson AFB for a while. Every so often they would fire up the jets and do RPM tests. I swear the back end of the planes were pointed at my house.
