View Full Version : Flip Rem 700 Action, Blue Print or Sell As-is?

Looking for advice on selling a Rem 700 action (.473 bolt face). It's currently chambered in 308 with brake but accuracy has started to drop off, about 2 MOA.
Some have recommended having it blue printed and re-barreled but not sure I'd get my money back going that route. Not sure there's much resale in a used 700 action either.
Thoughts?

Well do you want to build another 700 or go a different route? If you would sell to buy another 700, why not have another barrel put on the one you have?

How many rounds? Have you cleaned it? A 308 barrel should be good for several thousand rounds. You will never get your money back, but you might have fun shooting. A r700 action is probably worth about $300-$400.

As Delfuego stated, clean it and run a borescope down it. You may also want to check the action screw torque and any other possible issues. If all else fails, get a remage barrel from one of the various companies and rebarrel it for minimal cost.

OK, How much for the action & trigger, delivered, as in cash in hand

Sell it for what you can and buy a custom action like Terminus or Lone Peak.

Years ago I purchased a new action and have finally got it put together.

Guessing around 3k rounds. I spent much of last summer trying various cleaning methods including wipe-out type chemicals and JB. It's maybe a little better but not where I need it.

I'll update this post with link to sale if I decide to go this route.

Thanks Hoser!

Here's some pics of bore after last cleaning. There are some "voids" in bore that I didn't capture. 308 Remington Varmint/fluted barrel.

End of chamber/beginning of throat, some firecracking:

That thing should still shoot! Less wear than mine! You might try a new load. Brass might be the culprit, good consistent brass is super important.

If you have caught the bug (long-range, not covid), then I would take Hoser's advice and look for a custom action. We can definitely point you in the right direction for it and a gunsmith too.
