View Full Version : Colorado Republicans looking to end their primaries?
The Colorado Republican State Central Committee is looking to vote this Sept to end their state primaries.. I think I am on Calderas side on this, not sure how this helps them in any way.

The Colorado Republican State Central Committee members have a combined intelligence of a turnip. Common sense is very uncommon.

Accurate assessment.

Considering there are open primaries in Colorado there's really no point in letting Democrats pick your candidates. A big part of the problem with conservatives and Republicans in general is an unwillingness to get involved in the political process. So instead, people that worship The State and treat politics like their church are the ones running things.
So if actual conservatives want to change things, they need to actually get involved in party politics behind the scenes and this increases the power of individual Republicans willing to show up at the meetings and commit some time and effort to the party. The downside is that its the GOPe/RINO types that will take advantage of this the most.
There is no way to spin closed primaries as good for representation. But you did make a valiant effort. 7/10 for the effort.
The argument that to "fix it, you need to now be deeply involved in it" ignores the reality.
Faction politics and corruption is so deeply entrenched that to believe you can join it and have any role in candidate selection, you might as well charge across no mans land in 1918 believing you'll end the great war all by yourself. They'll still pick whatever player they want to roll with, whether or not you or I are involved. Open primaries, they can't guarantee who they get. Closed, it'll always be their man - a loser, no doubt, but it's their loser, it's the guy they promised the spot to in exchange for things. And the other 1.5million republicans in the state have zero say or representation from then on. Closing primaries has less to do with democrats and more to do with control.

I too, agree with Caldera on this. Proposition 108, allowing unaffiliated voters to vote in any major party’s primary was designed to allow organized hanky panky in candidate selection. And the Democrats have the underground organization to orchestrate contamination of the conservative candidate field.

Spot on. The county assemblies that I've attended have never allowed precinct level voters to have a hand in candidate selection. It's all predetermined by a handful of entrenched (read corrupt) politicians at the county level. And when those smoke room selections go to the state convention in virtually every case since Bill Owens the selected candidate is an unelectable that doesn't have the support of party members as a whole. The entire scenario is a losers game and why the Colorado Republican party remains unsuccessful.
