South Park guys may save their favorite restaurant.

Not the only link- it has been all over the news for two days.

I sat in the parking lot last week to do paperwork and there was a sign "Opening Soon" hanging up and a mop bucket holding the front door open.

There wasn't the aroma of week old fryer oil in the air so I don't think they are operating just yet.

That place really did have nasty food. If they cure that problem and snazz it up some, it could easily live on.

And there's an old rifle on a wall in there I want.....

Nice. That place is a landmark. I try and make it a point to go there about once every eight or nine years to support them.

I hope they get it and have the SP characters in a show. OMG. You killed Kenny.

If they buy it, it will survive. If they buy it and improve the food, it will get tons of customers. I might even go then.

Isn't that kinda obvious? It will be a South Park themed restaurant.

That's where most people know it from.

They will sell a lot of t-shirts.

who knows their food might be my favorite? You never know! Personally, I don't think it's any worse than Taco Bell, and people eat the hell out of that crap. The sopapilla's are legit if anything.

True. Now, I would never get to know how bad it was in real life. It is one of those place I should have at least went there by myself (w/o family) to set the benchmark of food quality. :D
Some said it taste similar to Tacobell bean paste.
I can easily tolerate tacobell, as long as there is less meat and no bean paste.

The reputation of the food is much worse than the actual food.Completely agree, as long as you don't go into it thinking you are going to get any sort of authentic (is there even such a thing in CO) Mexican food, I think you will be just fine. Drink a few beers or Margheritas while you wait, and you might be pleased.

Pretty much this.

If anyone remembers the old Mexican TV dinners that you actually had to heat up in the oven back when microwaves didn?t exist that?s what the food reminds me of.

Is it authentic or gourmet? No. Is it perfectly fine for human consumption? You betcha. Will it give you a case of Montezuma?s revenge? Probably.

meanwhile we still have tacobell , which takes about 15 minutes to get your food (at least in Thornton 120th and 136th).
Can get your food faster at old Chicago next door and food is slightly better.[flamingo]

This mexican food gets me to crave Torta.

Someone needs to do a frozen parody. Singing with a cartman impression.

What's crazy is that there are so few unique large places. Everyone with money opens a Chick Filet or three McDonalds. Everything is a freaking franchise. Virtually nobody spins up a successful unique idea for local entertainment anymore.

Sir, the crowd is growing, and some of them have pitchforks.

They demand stories and are threatening to throw people from a fake cliff.

So many memories of this place from when I was a kid, none are of quality food. :)

Endless sopapillas, conveyer belt food, cliff divers and cave seating!

Assuming you meant Colfax & Reed? 36 minute drive, is it worth it?

Sad thing is, growing up in NW OK, a trip to OKC nearly always included a stop at Casa Bonita. Didn't have the cliff divers, but had a unique "village vibe" and mariachi band, and all you could eat with the table flags. Food was the same near as I can recall.

If anyone has ever been to a Panchos in Texas it?s also like Casa Bonita but without the ambiance or entertainment. Just that same quality of food and the little flags of surrender on the tables. I think the lunch price during the week was $2.99 or something even well into the 90?s. If you were low on funds and hungry it was the place to go.

Yes, Colfax. I like it.

I've been hearing about La Casita at 3561 Tejon St. Haven't had a chance to go there yet.

Good ole Panchos. Think volume not quality. Cafeteria style on the way in to load up your tray. I recall those were little Mexican flags on the table that you raised for reloads. They also had sopaipillas to try and make you feel better about your poor judgment.

Yep. That?s the place. When I was young and poor it was a good place to fill up cheap.

And the flags were definitely raised when you wanted more food but there is an inside joke between me and my step dad about raising the flag when you can?t take anymore.

They should just build small microwave ovens in pickup trucks. It would stop a lot of food poisoning. Make it at home, cook it in the truck.

Furr's and Luby's Cafeterias as well. When I was living in a little apartment in Irving, TX after I got out of college, doing security work and barely scraping by, those were the places I hit when I could only afford one meal a day.

Yep. Big unemployment money coupled with $400/mo./child. Good luck getting people to go to work when they can get paid to do nothing.

Yep. We're having the same problem at my full-time job (911 dispatcher). We are getting people to apply, but getting them to pass a background check, psych eval, and a polygraph is another story. Some of them drop out because they found another job before we could finish the background check on them. Pay and benefits are pretty good too. Getting paid to sit at home and do nothing still beats what employers offer.
