View Full Version : Talk lever guns to me.
Working 31 days straight of OT has me getting extra toy curious.
Kinda want to get a threaded and pic rail lever gun to use as a range toy silly plinker.
45-70 is an easy option from Henry, but to my recollection, pretty pricy if not hand loaded? Never shot one but I imagine pretty stout? Lets just say I dont miss my steel stocked mosin.
So I was leaning towards 357 so I can shoot cheap 38s and still have a decent caliber for an extra around the house gun.

Henry big boy X model are threaded and railed, and come in 357/38. But hard to find.

Maybe their website sucks, I was looking at it and looked like only the big boy 4570 or whatever they call it was fully featured.
Edit. Ya looking at the page looks like that has an accessory rail not a optic rail.
Granted I could modify a gun but its nice to be off the shelf.

Marlin 1894 CST comes threaded and is drilled for a rail. I don’t know where you’d find one, but it’d probably be a good option as well.

All of the Henry lever action rifles, with exception of their 1860 "Original" replica, strike me as enhanced versions of the western styled cap guns in the front of Sportsman's Warehouse.
I?ve been on the lookout for a Henry ?X? rifle for over six months with no luck.
Let me know if you find two of them.

Sorry bro but Mrs bo is starting to get a bit of a crazed look in her eye from searching.

I only really need one so after short torture period maybe even including range trip I maybe could part with one.

I’d love a .38 one to suppress and a light go eliminate coyotes with…. One day…
I was in the springs a week ago and scheels had one, but I didn’t notice the caliber.

you might wait to see what Marlin starts making once Ruger has it up and running (supposedly by the end of the year)

Don't hold your breath. Ruger, like other mfg's are unable to get parts for items in queue .
Lever gun prices are crazy now! ARs are at or below retail, stores fully stocked but lever rifles, especially in handgun calibers are stupid expensive. There?s a nice newer Marlin .44 on another forum for $2k!!! Nope, not gonna happen for me.
I would love to get a .357 Henry with octagon barrel but they run $1k +.

Well, maybe if you add in shipping and transfer fees or whatever.

At the last PE Show in Loveland there were several Henry lever guns in 357, 44 and 45/70. All under $1000, one vendor selling a tube feed 357 for $749. If I was not there for something else I would have grabbed it. I saw a Rossi 357 for $599 but I would never have one because I had one once. Lever guns have become scarce on Armslist where two years ago you could get one in whatever caliber you wanted.

Get one in .44mag. I'd probably buy if from you, if it was around $600.
Been looking for a companion lever gun for my .44 mountain gun.
Gun Sport CO, in Boulder always had a good selection of used firearms. Haven't been there for a while but might be an option.
I should’ve been more specific-Henry with octagon barrel, blue or case color receiver

Don?t buy a Henry, they work fine but life is too sort for ugly rifles. Savage falls into the same category. I?m more of a purist when it comes to 1911s, Marlin lever actions and Winchester 94s. See if you can find a Marlin CST, and if not a CBSL. I?ve got a CBSL .357that has been great, along with a stainless 1894 .44 mag as well as .38-55 and .30-30 Marlin cowboys. I recently picked up an 1897 Cowboy in .22 lr that is amazing.

Wow. I bought a .30-30 Win '94 made in 1994 back in 2007 for $400. Nothing special, but it's in perfect condition. Of all my guns, it's still my favorite.
I have always wanted to get a matching levergun and revolver in .44 Mag... Partially for practical reasons, and partially for a little cowboy romanticism. :D
I'll trade you a copy of Brokeback Mountain for that lever gun right now.

Why am I not surprised that you have an extra copy of Brokeback Mountain? [ROFL1]
It's my only copy. But I'll open that shadow box display case and trade my cowboy romanticism for yours in a heart beat.

Despite what the uninformed say, Ruger announced that the Marlin 1895 in .45-70 will be released in December.

If you show up dressed like John Wayne in McClintock! but with assless chaps, it's a done deal.

According to those who work there, not happening in any mass quantity , until who knows when. Ruger, like every other business, has an issue receiving raw materials, among other items.
Now if one was interested i know where a Marlin 45-70 is, right now. He's not letting it go cheap, but it's a real nice 45-70, real nice.
For me the prices on lever guns has taken me out of the market. Used to be ARs were expensive and lever guns were cheap, haha not no mo!

The pistol caliber ones are definitely priced high but if you look around you can still get some good deals on used 30-30?s, especially in Colorado since they are ?too small for elk? and are ?limited to a hundred yards to be effective?.
The last couple of Winchesters I bought were in excellent condition and likely hardly ever fired. Both were early 1980?s models and were purchased for $400 and $425. Sometimes you can find the Marlin 36 even cheaper.
Leverguns? Ya, me likey! Got a few more too. Selling brass pays off!

You must have sold a lot of brass to pay for all of those.
Imagine how many you could have if you were selling primers.

You got me beat, by 1. Went with the new Colt King Cobra 3", since they seem to be in short supply. Over the henry lever 22.
