This is a noob hunting question. Back east in NC I was able to hunt deer with a black powder .50 cal rifle and a 12 gauge shot gun with 1-ounce slugs. Can you do that here in Colorado?

Are there special dates or restrictions on certain categories of game for black powder or slugs?

Thanks

If I remember correctly, and I could be wrong here it's been a while since I hunted big game in CO, Saboted black powder rounds are not legal to use. I think a shotgun slug is categorized as a rifle round so falls in rifle hunting.

No sabots, no scopes, no electronic ignition, on BP.
Shotguns legal.

Elk laugh at shotgun toters and stay just outa range of them....

+1 on all of this.

Also, I don't think pellitized powder is legal either...aka triple7 or pyrodex

just stop by wal-mart and pick up a big game hunting manual and everything is listed in there.
know all the laws. there are point restrictions as well for elk depending on the unit.
