Well, that blows. We were just getting back in the habit of hitting a movie about once a week, gonna run out of stuff to watch.

Given how they're trying to bend the knee to China in it, I couldn't care less.

For his level of career, I estimated his age should be 32ish LT during [fictional year] 83-84. ON fictional year 2020-2021, he is Captain o-5 and age of 70ish (32+ (2021-1983))?
Unless, movie Topgun is based on year back to 2001, it would be kinda silly.

Meanwhile, you can watch those cheaply made Chinese Propaganda Airforce/Airplane movies which occupies Afghanistan. [LOL]

I think people may tire from teasing this along seemingly endlessly. I thought it premiered already. Maybe it'll go direct to DVD? [Coffee]

The news blows but it's important that this film -- as one of the few non-woke films in recent years -- do very well. I've been hitting classic movie releases when they've come out (http://www.fathomevents.com/). Got to see the 40th anniversary release of "Stripes", 50th anniversary of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory", 35th anniversary of "Star Trek IV", etc. I also attend the anime releases -- some really great movies from the Japanese in recent years. Attendance has been pitiful but I'm doing my part to show non-woke films have an audience.

Nah, he should be a relatively junior LT in the original movie, around 27 or 28. 36 years later, he'd be a retired CAPT (O-6, not O-5) and roughly 63-64. Of course military retirement is not retirement so he's probably on contract to the school as an instructor. Even that's not enough to explain the wealth in his man-cave hangar but it helps.

You noticed that too? How does this military pilot have the bank to buy and maintain a P-51?

Well Cruise is 59 now, isn?t mandatory retirement at 62?

Hahaha-Stripes! When my son deployed the first time in ‘05 I sent him a bunch of dvds and included Stripes and MASH-the film (he was a Combat Medic then) none of those kids had seen them. They loved ‘em.

59 could fit with the timeline, he'd just have been an even more junior LT than I was allowing for in the original movie. Mandatory retirement for an O-6 would have been at 30 years of service, usually less but I could see a fighter pilot hanging on to the bitter end if he was allowed to keep flying the hot jets. The desk jobs are what tend to drive them out sooner.

We are trying our best to fit the Top Gun timeline into real timeline.

Our guess is that he GED the school at age 16 and went to academy or whichever academic school with reserve or whatever. Then Graduated at 20 and went to Navy at age 21. [LOL]
Then few years to get to LT. So, age 24-25.

If THAT SPECIFIC TOP GUN TIMELINE is true: age 25 (@1983) + (2021-1983) = age 63

https://www.thebalancecareers.com/army-changes-mandatory-retirement-separation-age-3976316

The Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard all set their own policies, so the maximum age for service varies slightly in each branch, and even for different ranks within a branch.

For instance, for U.S. Marines the mandatory retirement age is 62, although some higher-level officers and specialized personnel can serve until age 68.

The policies change frequently, too, based on military needs and budgets. For example, in 2018 some Air Force colonels were invited to stay on for three years beyond the mandatory retirement mark, which is usually 30 years of service.

my pure guess is he loves that F-5E or F-14 Tom-Gato so much that he bought bunch of his lifesaving into Northrop Grumman at around 1983. Cash out few % of it, and bought that thing. :D

Can't speak to whether it's woke or not, but it is playing to a Chinese audience (see the link Electronman posted), so that's just as bad imo.

Sadly we have potential of ~370m audience, and they have about ~1.2b potential audience.

it is not just us, but many Asian countries like Singapore, Japan, and South Korea , etc doing some sugar coating for Chinese market.

within 20 years, entire global economy have to also sugar coat for Indian market where as they are emerging [very] slowly.

Damn, what do you guys want, another entry of the M-She-U where we're told how much the white guys effed up and how things would be so much better if women had Cap's shield, Iron Man's armor, and Thor's hammer? That crap is coming anyway.

The original movie was great, this sequel looks like it has stupendous flying sequences, and while there's a little bit of pandering it doesn't look woke. I don't want dinner with Tom Cruise, I just want a movie I can enjoy that isn't some SJW activism being rammed down my throat.

It doesn't have the budget of Top Gun, and it's subtitled or dubbed, but Sky Fighters is a decent modern fighter pilot movie. Features the French Mirage 2000 and has some nice cinematography.

I was hoping "Capel Green" was going to be finished too!. Real life story of a UFO that lands near a US Air Force base in England. I visited that area as a child and lived on few different Air Force bases near there. Seems strange now most of the bases are closed. I'm sure the powers that be would collapse if the truth be known. What a coverup fiasco!
