I found this interesting. The article gives a short history of leaded fuel, the consequences for the environment and society, and the last countries to use leaded gasoline. The article is written from a decidedly pro UN perspective and describes global goals set by different UN organizations. I have not heard of the news source until today and don't know anything about them. Anyway, the "fossil fuel bad, electricity good" tone of the article caught my attention.

Haven't read the link yet, but saw a similar headline and was amused. It's not actually gone...

AVGAS is still leaded even in the U.S.A., and always has been.

Those are good questions. Somehow I think consideration of those fuels is beyond the scope of the reporters in that agency. After I posted, I clicked around the QZ website. My impression is that they are really big on big ideas but don't necessarily get into the details or feasibility.

I have younger co-workers that have been 'educated' via modern methods. They were touting that soon there would no vehicles using fossil fuels. Everything would go electric. I said, "I doubt that will happen." They responded with, "Name an example where it won't work."

"Commercial air transportation."

I also mentioned that the military use of petroleum will continue for the foreseeable future.

Greg's Automobiles and Airplanes on Utube has a very detailed article on WW2 fuels. Allies had a advantage.
I remember the last tank of leaded fuel I put in my 79 triumph Bonneville.
